Caifanes have played a significant role in the rock en español movement of the late '80s and '90s. In contrast to the many Latin artists drawing on American pop, artists participating in this movement have been inspired by more hard-edged, guitar-minded rock & roll. Latino rockers have proven to be as diverse a bunch as their English-speaking counterparts, and can be as goofy as Primus or as hard-driving as Aerosmith. With its haunting melodies and insightful use of restraint, this band inspires comparisons to U2. In fact, the impact of Bono's thoughtfulness is hard to miss on such offerings as "De Noche Todos los Gatos Son Pardos," "Antes De Que No Olviden" and "Los Dioses Ocultos." There's a certain yearning that immediately makes one think of U2. But make no mistake: Caifanes aren't simply U2 imitators with Spanish lyrics. El Diablito (Spanish for "the little Devil") proves that this is a band with a vital and interesting personality of its own. ~ Alex Henderson Caifanes El Diablito Songs Purchase El Diablito CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Pink Floyd Ummagumma CDs (1969)

Disc 1 was recorded live at Mothers, Birmingham, England and live at The
Party-liners may favor DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, but diehard space cadets recognize UMMAGUMMA as the pinnacle of post-Barrett Floyd's achievement. Originally released as a double LP, the first record is a live recording from 1969, while the second features four extended cuts written by (and featuring) each of the four band members in turn. Eschewing the catchy, Kinks-influenced pop kaleidoscope of the band's first album, the live portion focuses on extended, spacy near-instrumentals, heavy on acid-fueled jamming and atmospheric electronic textures.

| | Caifanes El Silencio CD (1992)
El Diablito album
$7.79 (MP3 Available for Download) Having Adrian Belew produce a Caifanes album must have seemed like a great idea, since the Mexican band had a musical attack as accomplished and eclectic as Belew's own work. Unfortunately, the pairing just doesn't strike sparks here. Belew's influence shows up throughout the album, which has more jittery rhythms and odd dissonances than other albums by the band. This works fine on a few cuts, such as the lively "Nubes," but over the course of the album it is a distraction. That sense ...

El Diablito MP3 Album
$7.79 (MP3 Available for Download) The last album released before Caifanes changed their name to Los Jaguares is a triumph of progressive pop-metal entwined with Latin ideas. Though the group is often compared to U2 the two have never sounded less similar; the band developed a harder style here that comes close to early Metallica territory at times. Though Saul Hernandez is a near match for Bono in his histrionic style and socially conscious lyrics, he adopts a low croon for many of these songs. The group's Mexican character ...

El Diablito music CDs
$9.09 (MP3 Available for Download) As his first recording since the dissolution of the much-loved Mexican rock outfit Caifanes, Saul Hernandez has a whole new set of wings on EL EQUILIBRIO DE LOS JAGUARES. Jaguares is essentially a musical workshop, from the center of which this singer/guitarist/songwriter conceives an ethereal, moody production with the help of a hip studio band (including Caifanes drummer Alfonso Andre) and seasoned producers Don Was and Ed Cherney. While Saul's singing may sound a little subdued in comparison to his singeing howl in Caifanes, it's the breathy, quiet fire in his voice here that intensifies the creeping mystical quality of the songs. And the expanded instrumentation ...

El Diablito MP3 Album
$8.99 (MP3 Available for Download) More than three years after 2003's AND THEN, Joe (aka Georgia-born singer Joe Thomas) finally returned with another fine R&B outing, the much-delayed, highly anticipated AIN'T NOTHIN' LIKE ME. Boasting production by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis and Timbaland, and guest shots by Nas, Chamillionaire, and others, the album is a solid set of contemporary R&B with a sophisticated soul edge that is well-represented by the gentle, emotive single "If I Was ...
