This collection draws 16 tracks from that period in Sanborn's career, with songs ranging from the funky "Chicago Song" to the smooth "Lesley Ann" to the spare, delicate "Lotus Blossom." For listeners whose only connection to jazz is via Kenny G, this Sanborn sampler is the next logical step.

| | Dazz Band 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection CD (2001)
Raiz music CDs
$6.79 Originally released on Motown Records. Includes liner notes by A. Scott Galloway.
An 11-song snapshot of the Dazz Band's Motown stint that includes the not-often-featured "To the Roof," whose origins date back to "Take It to the Woof" by Cleveland, OH-based funk band Morning Maniac led by ex-Dazz Band member Kenny Pettus who's the lead voice on the Earth, Wind and Fire-ish "I Might As Well Forget About Loving You." But other than that, there are no surprises, just straight-ahead digitally remastered Dazz Band blasts that blow you away in CD format ("Let It Whip"'s bassline is ...

| | Meredith D'Ambrosio Love Is For The Birds CD (2001)
Raiz album
$13.85 Singer Meredith d'Ambrosio alternates between trio arrangements (which she co-arranged with pianist Lee Musiker) and a sextet scored by trumpeter and flugelhornist Don Sickler, while also writing lyrics for all 13 songs, which are centered around the challenge of achieving and maintaining love. Her soft, cool-toned vocals are captivating, as is her ability to write intelligent lyrics that originate from songs by composers like Kenny Dorham ("Rhyme of Spring," originally "Poetic Spring"), Harold Land ("That Magic Rapture," initially called "Rapture"), Tom McIntosh ("Cup of Life," adapted from "The Cup Bearers"), and Clifford Brown ("Beloved," based on his well-known "Daahoud"). D'Ambrosio also wrote both the music and lyrics to six of the selections, including the haunting ballad "I May Be the One." She collaborated with Eddie Higgins (her husband) on the richly textured samba "Just a Dream (Falando de Orlando)" and Ray Passman on the whimsical but understated "Frishberg and Dorough," a fine tribute to two very entertaining singing pianists which intermixes excerpts of lyrics from ...
| | Opeth Ghost Reveries CD (2005)
Raiz CD music
$14.05 New label, new band member, same brilliant Opeth. The most obvious change from their previous two releases, DELIVERANCE (2002) and DAMNATION (2003), is the permanent addition of previous touring keyboard player Per Wiberg. His organ work, specifically, creates new textures only hinted at on previous releases. While many of Opeth's peers have opted to phase out their death-metal ...
| | Mannheim Steamroller Fresh Aire VII CD (1991)
Raiz music CDs
$10.09 Principally recorded at Sound Recorders, Omaha, Nebraska and Universal Studios, Chicago, Illinois.
The FRESH AIRE series is divided into two parts. The first four albums are explorations of the seasons of the year, while albums five through eight examine human curiosities and obsessions, whether it be the quest for the moon (FRESH AIRE 5) or the concept of infinity (FRESH AIRE 8).
As conceived and composed by Mannheim's Chip Davis, FRESH AIRE 7 may be the most mathematically involved album in the series, examining in full algorithmic detail the power of the number seven. Rainbows, astrology, alchemy, and spiritual power--all are based heavily on the power of seven, and all receive full consideration here.
Tracks 6 through 12 are meditations upon each of the seven chakras, or energy centers of the body, which deal with various needs, functions, and desires, such as sex, love, and survival. Track seven, dealing with the Svadhisthana chakra, or the center of sexual functions, is tense, suggesting pursuit, while track nine's soothing keyboards suggest the unconditional love arising from the fourth chakra.
Includes liner notes by Chip Davis.
All tracks have been digitally remastered.
Engineers include: John Boyd, Bill Bradley, Campbell Hughs.
Mannheim Steamroller: Chip Davis (conductor, upright ...
