Closed Captioned; Soundtrack English "Beautiful Girls" takes place in a sleepy New England town, the bucolic home of a group of Generation X-ers involved in a number of romantic goings-on. The film takes a close look at the differences between men and women, particularly in matters of love, sex and relationships.
Perhaps the most intriguing pair in the movie is Willie and his (female) neighbor Marty -- who's only 13. The streetwise, flirtatious Marty has a killer crush on Willie (who is intrigued by her), but both are well aware that she's "jail bait." The duo considers waiting five whole years for Marty to become of age... but can they really do that? In this post-coming-of-age comedy, a high school reunion in a small Massachusetts town gives a group of buddies plenty of opportunities to try and sort out their views about women and life. From the former stud-turned-snowplow operator to the aspiring nightclub musician who escaped to New York, these clueless cads can only hope for some female guidance. A Woods Entertainment production.
Released theatrically in the USA February 9, 1996.
Filmed in Panavision; color by Technicolor; prints by DeLuxe.
Additional credits: Maria Baker (set designer) and Lucy W. Corrigan (costume designer).

$10.29 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar live action fare and breezes by with more than a couple of inventive set pieces, as well as some excellent comic dialogue.

$32.75 Director Goro Taniguchi (INFINITE RYVIUS, S-CRY-ED) fashions another imaginative take on intergalactic space travel in his sci-fi series PLANETES. In the year 2075, travel between the earth, moon, and various space stations has become a routine part of human existence. But the increased traffic leaves behind floating pieces of debris that present a deadly hazard for traveling starships and must be cleared by a squad of hardworking debris collectors. As the collectors' newest recruit, idealistic Ai Tanabe quickly loses her enthusiasm for outer space when she joins the Half-Section unit and meets her cynical new partner, Hachimaki. But Tanabe soon discovers that hauling in space debris is not only dull and monotonous--it carries with it a unique set of difficulties and dangers. PLANETES avoids the wild, fantastical tropes of much sc-fi anime in favor of realistic hard science that emphasizes character development and gorgeously rendered animation. This collection presents the whole series in its entirety.

$19.74 Old Han (Huang Zongluo) was a janitor for many years at the Peking Opera. While he was there, he witnessed countless productions and saw an equally impressive number of rehearsals. Now that he is retired, he discovers that he has a common bond with a group of senior citizens he meets in the park: they all share a passion for Peking Opera. They decide to rent a space in order to amuse themselves by putting on scenes and the like. What could be more natural than putting Han in charge of their preparations? However, he fails to understand the amateur nature of the operation and grievously offends the hobbyists with his stern, disciplinarian manner. Things come to a head when they discover that the space they have been renting is going to be torn down soon.

David Duchovny (THE X-FILES) returns to the small screen as Hank Moody, a hangdog novelist on the skids in L.A. When not hopping into the sack with any woman who bats her eyes at him, Hank struggles to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend, Karen (Natascha McElhone), and their young daughter, Becca (Madeleine Martin). A lingering case of writer's block--due to the abysmal big-screen adaptation of his novel--and the entrance of a new man in Karen's life don’t help matters any. But while chain-smoking and living inside a whiskey bottle, Hank makes a few clumsy steps toward putting his life back on track. With a permanent five o'clock shadow and charmingly slurred speech, Duchovny is perfect as a loveable loser who never quite loses the audience's sympathy. This second season finds Hank getting back together with Karen, although their reconciliation is quickly put into jeopardy by the usual cause: an over-imbibed Hank.
