MUSHROOM JAZZ VOL. 2 is a continuous in-the-mix recording by DJ Mark Farina.
DJ Mark Farina handles the mixing on Mushroom Jazz, Vol. 2, a collection of mellow acid jazz tracks by various artists that actually holds together quite well. Farina's added samples help give a sense of unity to the whole album, and his house influences add a bit of variety. ~ Steve Huey

Mushroom Jazz Vol. 2 songs
$10.09 This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Mark Farina.
With a clever twist on the term "acid jazz," Mark Farina returns with Mushroom Jazz, Vol. 3. Lining up all the editions of the series, the upward growth of Farina's mixing skills and track selection is evident. Farina also shows evidence that he's comfortable with the mixer as a tool, as he tweaks and hollows out songs without abusing the power. This installation ...

Mushroom Jazz Vol. 2 album
$9.75 This is a continuous in-the-mix CD compiled and mixed by DJ Mark Farina.
Mark Farina mixes his fourth installment in his acid jazz series, Mushroom Jazz, as a groovy hip-hop and down-tempo house chillout record. From the laid-back vibe of the opener, Pete Rock's "A Little Soul," to Dubble-D's futuristic, David Holmes-esque jazz shuffle, "Big Fish," Farina is in top form, creating an album to space out, dance, ...

| | U F O Making Contact/Misdemeanor CDs (1996) (Import) United Kingdom
Mushroom Jazz Vol. 2 music CDs
$17.79 MAKING CONTACT/MISDEMEANOUR was originally released as two seperate LPs in 1983 and 1985.
This two-disc set includes 1983's Making Contact and 1985's Misdemeanor in one package. Neither title strayed too much from the proven UFO formula, incorporating both chunky hard rock and keyboard-driven ballads, even though the songwriting was fairly average when compared to past UFO albums. These releases also continued their dubious competition with Scorpions as the source for the world's worst album covers. Despite that, Making Contact is competent, with the underrated Paul Chapman adding guitar textures to pretty predictable stuff. By the time Misdemeanor was released, the band was completely overhauled, with only Phil Mogg remaining as the lone member from UFO's original lineup. However, the replacements weren't inspiring, evoking the look and sound of bad hair metal instead of the credible street rock image the band had specialized in up until that time. Nonetheless, these albums were the group's last releases with any merit until the classic lineup reformed in 1995 for Walk on Water. The best songs from both these albums can be found ...
| | Miles Davis Pangaea CDs (1975)
Mushroom Jazz Vol. 2 songs
$15.99 PANGAEA was the last album Miles Davis made before his 5 year retirement.
Recorded live at Osaka Festival Hall, Osaka, Japan on February 1, 1975. Includes liner notes by Kevin Whitehead.
The companion set to AGARTHA, PANGAEA presents the Davis band in that evening's concert performance at Osaka Festival Hall on February 1, 1975. The difference in moods is readily apparent, as the band comes out on fire--particularly the trumpeter, who was in a more reticent mood during the afternoon's festivities.
With PANGAEA Miles peeks out from the eye of an electronic hurricane to impart the darker side of his soul. Davis was on the verge of a total mental and physical collapse when this concert was recorded, suffering from a variety of degenerative physical ailments, in the throes of a cocaine haze, glaring out at the world from behind the protective darkness of his shades, amidst the grungy blare of his Afro-blue psychobabble.
Whether these sounds derive from Davis' malaise or occur in spite of it, it's amusing to recall that this dangerous, relentlessly edgy music was widely held to be proof of Miles' commercial aspirations. Yet only in recent years did Ornette Coleman & Prime Time, The Black Rock Coalition, Living Colour and John Zorn's Naked City approximate PANGAEA's mysterious power. On side one, some fierce acid funk gives way to an aquatic percussive melange; likewise, side two's ...
| | Joseph Jarman Out Of The Mist CD (1997)
Mushroom Jazz Vol. 2 album
$14.05 Free blowing often inspires traffic and automotive metaphors -- all those horns -- and these 14 cuts suggest one more: five musicians playing as if respecting a four-way stop. This album was released on a Vermont label, and is the packaging ever misleading. Melanie Powell's cover painting is as serenely vague upside down as it is right side up, while the album title (in large type) evokes the new age racks or a movie soundtrack. But before you pass it by, check the fine print for the artists' names. Joseph Jarman's tenor saxophone and Leroy Jenkins' violin are better known from two important jazz outfits, respectively, the Art Ensemble of Chicago and the Revolutionary Ensemble. This time, Jarman's other axes include ceramic flutes, ...
