While 1994's Millennium showed what raging guitars and a metal slant could do to Front Line Assembly's heavy industrial sound, Implode adds an advanced concentration of electronics and drum'n'bass rhythms. Songs like "Retribution" and the single "Prophecy" are just as dark and storming as previous FLA material, but with a crucial update to the production. ~ Keith Farley

Alternative Press (10/99, p.90) - 3 out of 5 - "...retools FLA's classic sound, proving that even an old band can learn new tricks - as well as rediscover some old ones....IMPLODE is FLA's strongest release in years." CMJ (5/31/99, p.5) - "...an intense, edgy journey through a sinister, electronically manipulated maelstrom of demonic sound. Haunting melodies clash with chaotic soundscapes, gravelly vocals combat chunky guitar riffs, and breakbeats to battle with sub-bass lines..." A-M-A-Z-I-N-G|C-Y-B-E-R-P-U-N-K|E-X-P-E-R-I-E-N-C-E What can I say about this album? Well - if you love Gibson's NEURIMANCER, if you love DEUS EX game and MATRIX and JOHNY MNEMONIC films, than WHAT TO HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? Songs like SILENT CEREMONY or SYNTHETIC FORMS are totally crushing cyberpunk experience!!! Submitted by AmadeO (Poland) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
ecstasy a go go! This album delivers what it's predesessor could not "Quality content" although "Flavour of the weak" had it's good tracks, i feel that this album has the over all goods so to speak! And if you are a true FLA fan then you will agree, because if you think this disc is not of one of the finest that FLA has delivered then you are F**king insane! beyond all comprehension! I feel that this will be the last good peice of material you will hear from these guys, as the current album "Epitaph" is rumoured to be their last! FLA explode ! Front Line Assembly newest release, IMPLODE, sure is a great album, even better than their latest FLAVOUR OF THE WEAK (which was exactly that : weak !).
With the recent departure of Rhys Fulber, many feared that the next album wouldn't meet the standards... Fortunatly, Bill Leeb made a great album in the pure FLA tradition, with the contribution of Chris Peterson. Ok, IMPLODE won't revolutionize the Industrial music industry, but it shows that FLA is still very well at ease without Rhys in the rank.
IMPLODE is 10 track experimental album. Experimental, yes, but not too far away from the FLA usual sound. You'll still find Leeb's distorted voice, some sampling and sequencing, some hard guitar (but not in forefront, like it was in MILLENIUM or HARD WIRED), along with the usual FLA techno dance beat. But IMPLODE differs in its treatment of the well-known elements that made FLA sound & technique. Is IMPLODE a mark for the new FLA direction ? Maybe...
The gems : RETRIBUTION, FATALIST, PROPHECY are amongst my favorites tracks. Typical FLA, but with a new fresh twist. SILENT CEREMONY - an instrumental, at the very end of the CD - is very un-FLA-esque, but good nevertheless. The other tracks are very good too.
Very interesting album ! Almost an anthology of styles, Front Line Assembly/ Delirium/Noise Unit/and so on in one package. Not a dull or an easy album though. IMPLODE worths buying. Submitted by the Grey (Sherbrooke, QC) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

For some Front Line Assembly fans, Implode marked a downturn in the band's musical creativity and energy. Epitaph may sound like the title of an album that completed this descent. Instead, Epitaph marks a return to former strength for the classic electro-industrial ...

| | Los Lonely Boys Sacred CD (2006) Bonus Track; Japan
Implode album
$39.09 Texan trio Los Lonely Boys (comprising siblings Henry, JoJo, and Ringo Garza) garnered plenty of attention when their self-titled debut (recorded with and championed by Willie Nelson) was released on Epic Records in 2004. The group's 2006 follow-up, SACRED, expands upon the first album's powerful roots-rock sound, adding additional elements of soul, R&B, country, and Tejano to the mix, while fleshing out the sound with accordion, electric organ, and horns.
The album's lead-off single, "Diamonds," encapsulates everything exciting about the band with its muscular guitar attack, high-flown harmonies, and inescapably catchy refrain. But there are plenty of highlights here, including the album's opener, "My Way," and the stirring ballad "I Never Met a Woman." Guest appearances by Willie Nelson and the Boys' father Enrique Garza boost the album's profile while simultaneously keeping it all in the family.
Finally! After three years, four different editions of their self-titled debut, a couple of live outings, a handful of singles, and the radio smash hit "Heaven," San Angelo, TX, wunderkinds Los Lonely Boys drop Sacred, their second studio album. The Garza brothers -- Henry (guitar), JoJo (bass), and Ringo (drums) -- up the ante on this slab; it's a big production number that includes additional keyboards, horns, and extra percussion muscle. Does it take away from the immediacy of their debut? Nope. This is not the ill-fated sophomore slump. Sacred is, for the most part, an uptempo, rollicking, streetwise Texas rock record with many surprises. The Garza brothers' lyric writing is still developing, but the tightknit arrangements, popping grooves, and focused musicianship more than balance. The album's first single is "Diamonds," and true to corporate rock standards, it's an utterly catchy, infectious little track, but it's far from the best thing here. Henry's blistering guitar offers a beautiful hook for the trio to sing off of; it's a simple, hooky midtempo love ballad, played on stun, with two organs (played by Reese Wynans and Mike Finnegan) and producer John Porter lending a second guitar. All mixed up, it creates a big swirling danceable pop noise that will be instantly memorable to anyone who encounters it. That said, there are other cuts here that reveal the depths of the bandmembers' musical knowledge and ideas that they are capable of pulling off. Take "Roses" as an example. Henry's Jimi Hendrix-cum-Stevie Ray Vaughan-cum-Albert Collins guitar style flat out creates a groove for the trio to sing from -- its melody is sophisticated, entrancing, and layered through with B-3 ...
| | Vic Chesnutt At The Cut CD (2009) Digipak
Implode CD music
$12.89 AT THE CUT reunites Vic Chesnutt with several of the collaborators who helped make his extraordinary 2007 album, NORTH STAR DESERTER, and while you can't force lightning to strike twice in the same place, Chesnutt and this group of gifted musicians have managed to create something similarly powerful and affecting that also has a personality of its own. With Howard Bilerman behind the recording console, Guy Picciotto helping with the production and arrangements, and members of Silver Mt. Zion Orchestra accompanying Chesnutt, this follows a similar template to NORTH STAR DESERTER, but AT THE CUT manages to sound more approachable and direct while still conjuring up striking and atmospheric clouds of sound that reinforce Chesnutt's ...
