Cleopatra Jones, a federal agent, uses her formidable fighting skills to full advantage as she battles a wicked underworld narcotics queen and her tough mob.

African-American writer Max Julien (also an actor who played the lead role in the pimpsploitation classic THE MACK) stirred up the Hollywood studio system with CLEOPATRA JONES, the first film of the genre to feature a butt-kicking woman in the title role. A buxom beauty, undercover narcotics agent Cleopatra Jones (Tamara Dobson) is the principal operative in a covert scheme to eradicate an international drug trade. She's pulled away from important business when a phony raid on her boyfriend's ghetto halfway house puts the place in jeopardy. The source of her domestic troubles is Mommy, a raunchy underworld eccentric who uses her connections with bad cops on the force to cause trouble for Cleopatra's friends and set her up for an attack. With its non-stop action and hit soundtrack featuring a title track sung by Millie Jones, CLEOPATRA JONES is as fun to watch as it is culturally significant.

Theatrical release: July 1973 Former model Tamara Dobson made her feature film debut in this 1970s Blaxploitation cult classic. Title theme song by Joe Simon. Additional music by Carl Brandt and Brad Shapiro.

3 stars Cleo saves the day
Dynamic Tamara Dobson makes her movie debut as tough special agent who finally put to rest a Naroctic drug lord to save boyfriend drug rehabilition house in reviewing this movie I felt it was a little unrealistic to have Cleo as a Special agent working for the president of the united states during the time that intergration was in the process. I commend her acting ablities she played the part of a strong and confident black woman and thats what I loved most about her character most of all this movie is worth looking at and also I thought she wore some of the coolest clothes Cleo looked mighty sharp

FOXY BROWN is Pam Grier's landmark Blaxploitation film, in which she creates the iconic character imitated in films by directors from Spike Lee to Quentin Tarantino. Grier plays Foxy, a toughened woman living in a drug-plagued Los Angeles ghetto who goes on a one-woman mission of vengeance after her undercover cop boyfriend (Terry Carter) is shot down in the street. The badass lass goes undercover herself, as a call girl for the evil mistress of the drug cartel (Kathryn Loder), and with the help of a neighborhood vigilante committee, wreaks some hell on the bad guys. Highlights include a lesbian bar brawl and Foxy's sexual belittling of an old white judge. Co-stars include Antonio Fargas, Sid Haig, and Sally-Ann Stroud. Don't miss the crazily colored opening credits, which feature Grier boogying down in all sorts of super-sexy outfits ...

Following the breakout success of Melvin Van Peebles's SWEET SWEETBACK'S BAADASSSSS SONG, Gordon Parks' SHAFT would officially launch the historic Blaxploitation movement. Based on the novel by Ernest Tidyman, the film stars Richard Roundtree as John Shaft, a debonair, tough-talking private detective, who became a full-fledged American archetype after the film was released. Combining street smarts and sharp wit, Shaft is the quintessential black action hero. After battling against Harlem gang kingpin Bumpy Jonas (Moses Gunn), Shaft decides to help rescue Bumpy's daughter from the Mafia. What follows is an action-packed ...

SUPERFLY, along with COFFY and SHAFT, completes Blaxploitations's best known triumvirate. One of the highest-grossing pictures of 1972, SUPERFLY became an instant classic, and established director Gordon Parks firmly in Warner Brothers' sights to make THREE THE HARD WAY in 1974. Parks was one of the first African American directors to get financing from a major Hollywood studio to make the 1969 film THE LEARNING TREE. Super Fly is a cocaine dealer who begins to realize that his life will soon end with either prison or his death. He decides ...

Clyde and Billy come up with a hair-brained scheme to raise money for a new lodge hall by fixing a boxing match. Their plan is to hypnotize a weakling boxer and make him think he's unbeatable. Then they'll place bets on his "sure-win" fights. Their idea is so crazy that it just might work. ...

David Lynch's first foray into the land of Disney and G-ratings is a surprisingly gentle, hopeful, and irony-free crowd pleaser. The film tells the true story of Alvin Straight (Richard Farnsworth), a 73-year-old man who journeys from Laurens, Iowa, to Mt. Zion, Wisconsin, on a John Deere lawn mower in order to visit his dying older brother, Lyle (Harry Dean Stanton). The estranged brothers haven't spoken in years because of their stubborn pride, but Lyle's recent stroke convinces Alvin that now is the time to make amends. Along the way he meets a host of interesting characters--including a pregnant runaway teenager, ...

SAW: Be prepared to be scared. James Wan's directorial debut, written by and starring Leigh Whannell, is a violent, bloody, psychologically exhausting and exhilarating exercise in terror. Adam (Whannell) and Dr. Gordon (Cary Elwes) are chained in a vile, disgusting bathroom, separated by a bloody corpse holding a gun and a tape recorder. They are each given a saw--the only obvious way out is to cut one of their feet off. A serial killer who specializes in torturing morally bereft strangers is playing a game with them: Gordon has less than eight hours to kill Adam or else the doctor's wife (Monica Potter) and daughter (Mackenzie Vega) will be murdered. As the two men engage in a battle of wits, alternately trying to help each other and secretly attempting to win the game, a series of flashbacks reveals the history of the madman and the pair of detectives (Danny Glover and Ken Leung) handling the case. Some of the torture scenes are excruciatingly horrible and hard to watch, a real treat for fans of the genre. SAW II: Jigsaw is back for more gory fun in SAW II, but this time he comes out from behind the mask to terrorize a troubled cop face-to-face. Tobin Bell reprises his brief role as Jigsaw in the first film with a major starring turn in the sequel. Dying of cancer, Jigsaw lets himself get caught, only to show Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) that his son, Daniel (Erik Knudsen), has been taken hostage with seven other people, all of whom have been placed in a house of horrors with only the slimmest chance of escaping with their lives. Jigsaw promises Matthews that Daniel will live only if the cop follows the rules of the game, but time is running out, as the captives' bodies have been poisoned with a toxin that will soon destroy them. Meanwhile, in the dank, mysterious, booby-trapped house, the ever-more-desperate group of people (including Shawnee Smith, who is back as Amanda, the lone survivor of SAW) furiously try to find their connection to each other and a way out, but blood and violence lie in their path. Like its predecessor, SAW II is a frightening thriller filled with plenty of tricks and treats to satisfy even the most jaded horror fan. SAW III: As SAW II concluded, Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) was dying. But that doesn't mean his penchant for playing games of torture and violence is ending. In SAW III, the murders start occurring again, and Kerry (Dina Meyer) is back on the case, although she thinks this time it might be the work of a copycat. She's only partly right: Amanda (Shawnee Smith), the only victim to have survived both movies, has joined Jigsaw as his apprentice, leading the way through a terrifying game involving Lynn (Bahar Soomekh), a doctor in an unhappy marriage, and Jeff (Angus Macfadyen), a distraught man who is having trouble getting over the loss of his son (Stefan Georgiou) at the hands of a drunk driver. Amanda has captured Lynn and placed her in a neck brace that is linked to Jigsaw's heart monitor; she must keep Jigsaw alive or else the brace will explode. Meanwhile, Jeff is ...
