If a nice young man named Joe invites you to his pad on the Lower East Side, do yourself a favor and decline his offer. Why? Because Joe shares his seedy-to-the-max apartment with literally thousands of wisecracking cockroaches, who sing gospel hymns, warble country tunes, and even perform aquatic ballets in the toilet! As Joe grows accustomed to his antennaed roommates, he finds that they come in handy as he tries to woo Lily -- whose dastardly father wishes to decimate Joe's building. If Joe wins Lily's heart, it might help dissuade her dad from his plans. Because if the building is destroyed, those roaches will need a new home -- like yours.... A young Iowan moves to New York City and inherits a huge group of friends--the thousands of cockroaches who inhabit his apartment. From helping him with his fledgling attempts at romance and annoying his very deserving landlord, these six-legged roomies are livin' large. Based on the 1992 MTV short. Hilarious. See "Twilight of the Cockroaches" for a different treatment of the same story. Released theatrically in the USA July 26, 1996.

Now I think cockroaches are a good thing... When this movie first debuted, I was one of those people who thought that I would never watch it, let alone enjoy countless hours of viewing it continuously. I mean come on, a movie about ROACHES!!! Now after being tricked into watching it, I can’t remember why I event thought I would hate it. Of course the plot is a little dense but the wisecracking, churchgoing las cucarachas make up for that. Laugh out loud funny! The whole family really enjoyed this very funny, very silly movie however do be careful as there is a little 'colourful' language from time to time, you may want to watch before you let the younger rugrats see it.
The story is about Joe, his apartment and several hundred talking cockroaches! They don't just talk they sing, dance and generally mess up Joe's lovelife.
Joe's apartment had us all in stitches, it took much longer to watch the film than it should have as we constantly skipped back to watch the funniest bits over and over again.
If you like Dumb & Dumber, Airplane, Hot Shots Part Deux and those type of films then you'll LOVE this movie.... HIGHLY recommended. Submitted by karenstuart34 (Manchester, United Kingdom) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Joe's Apartment movie DVD
$6.99 When four of the world's funniest black stand-up comics came together to celebrate their crownings as the "Kings of Comedy," acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee decided to film two of their most memorable shows. The result is THE ORIGINAL KINGS OF COMEDY, a raucous concert film that takes its cue from classic performers such as Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy. The host of the evening, Steve Harvey, spends most of his time criticizing modern music--namely hip-hop--for forgetting to include love in its songs, missing the days when black music was passionate and romantic. D.L. Hughley focuses on universal ...
