Selena Movie Review Average Rating: (4.6 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Selena's story lives on & Jennifer Lopez's finest moment Selena is an amazing, moving, & enjoyable movie for not just fans of Selena but for the whole family.
It delivers the true story of Selena's life with the help of the fantastic cast. Edward James Olmos plays Mr. Quintanilla, Constance Marie plays Mrs. Quintanilla, & in the title role Jennifer Lopez plays Selena with real heart. All the cast deliver great & convincing performances in their roles.
There is no dought that this is Jennifer Lopez's finest moment in her acting career, she played Selena with such heart, warmth & joyfulness that it's like Selena & Jennifer came together during this movie. The music sounds really great during the concert scenes & Jennifer Lopez captures Selena's mannerisms on spot & at times you're mind can play tricks on you with which one is Selena.
It's a shame that Selena's beautiful life 7 amazing music career ended so wrongly.
Overall This movie is an amazing, uplifting, & wonderful & sad story
that truely show's the american dream.

Fantastic! Such a sad story! I fell in love with Selena because this movie portrayed her to be the most beautiful, talented and successful latino performer. I envy her life as someone who struggled in her lifehood to become what she has became! I enjoyed this movie very much and will watch it over and over again! Congradulations to Jennifer Lopez as she did a superb job in her performance as Selena! Submitted by Scott - Magoo7985 (Avon, Mass) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Selena Movie This movie is so beautifully done I can still remember the day she died...This movie brings so many memories back. My boyfriend didn't know who Selena was until I had him sit down with me and watch this movie. We'll have been married for two years now this comming summer and to this day he still watches it with me and I'm teaching him and my daughter to sing her songs. Just so that she knows she's missed but NEVER forgotten. R.I.P. Selena! Submitted by Soledad (Denver, Colorado) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Murphy's Romance DVD (1985) Widescreen
Selena review
$6.55 A charming, low-key romantic comedy, MURPHY'S ROMANCE is full of the small pleasures missing from other pictures of its genre. James Garner, in his first Oscar-nominated performance, is the title character, Murphy. Garner lends his unique, down-home persona to the character while the film's writers endow the character with some memorable lines. Murphy's romance begins when Emma (Field) arrives in the small Arizona town where he lives. With her she brings her son Jake, and a feisty attitude. Though this sounds like a set-up from any number of other film romances, it becomes clear from their first meeting that the director, Martin Ritt, is more interested in his carefully observed setting, and in the comic flirtations between Murphy and Emma flirtations, than in making a conventional picture. In fact, some of the film's strongest comic scenes occur when the locals show off their color, including a hilarious sequence during a bingo game that showcases the amazing support cast. Of course, there is some drama and confrontation, but the focus remains on the setting and the relationship between Murphy and Emma, whose lengthy romance is the clear mark of one of the most highly enjoyable movie courtships ever seen.

| | Night Of The Generals DVD (1967)
Selena DVD
$9.29 A political murder mystery set in Nazi-occupied Poland and postwar Paris, NIGHT OF THE GENERALS follows a military investigator, General Grau (Omar Sharif), on his inquiry into a prostitute's murder that has unexpectedly led him to three prime suspects (Peter O'Toole, Donald Pleasence, and Charles Gray)--all generals in the German army. Two years after the murder in Warsaw, Grau is transferred to Paris, where he confronts the man he believes to be the murderer--who is busy framing one of the other generals for the crime. When Paris detective Inspector Morand (Philippe Noiret) gets involved, more than one plot is uncovered in this tense drama that parallels World War II's mass murder with the individual actions of its participants. Director Anatole Litvak's film is based on the best-selling novel by Hans Helmut Kirst.
It is a thriller occurring in World War II about a Nazi General who becomes a serial killer. When a Polish prostitute is brutally murdered in Nazi-occupied Warsaw, her killer is only identified as a German General. For years the crime remains unsolved until the killer strikes again, bringing this mesmerizing mystery to its unforgettable finish.

Selena movie DVD
$7.75 Youth gangs took over the slums of Rio de Janiero during the 1960s and didn't relinquish their stronghold until the mid-1980s. Only a sucker wouldn't have turned to crime and this is exactly how naive teen Rocket (Alexandre Rodrigues) views himself. His attempts in illegal activity fail as he finds potential victims too friendly. Equally unsuccessful in love, he regularly fails to lose his virginity. Blood spills throughout the streets of the Ciudad de Deus as gang leader Li'l Ze (Leandro Firmino da Hora) is challenged by local druglords and a gang of pre-teens known as the Runts. Rocket shoots all of this action with his weapon of choice, a camera.
Director Fernando Meirelles combines visual flashiness with dark history in telling the story of three decades of unrest in underground Rio de Janiero. Technically flawless, the Brazilian film uses a rapid-cutting style to flash back and forth in time. Cinematographer Cesar Charlone shoots with an overexposed glow in a film that may seem numb to violence, but reveres photography. Director Meirelles was assisted by Katia Lund, a filmmaker who had previously shot in the Rio ghettos.
A poor boy grows up in a violent environment but realizes that he sees reality differently than others. In Brazilian Portuguese with English subtitles.

| | War Dogs DVD (1942) Full Frame; Black & White
Selena DVD
$10.69 Though not originally conceived of as a commercial feature film, this inspirational adventure story from western director S. Roy Luby actually did relatively well with audiences when it was released in 1942. Based around the real-life recruitment of dogs to work as protectors of army bases during World War II, WAR DOGS was Luby's attempt to educate the public about a project he firmly believed in. When a young boy named Billy Freeman (Billy Lee) is caught stealing, the judge (Bradley Page) and welfare representative assigned to his case discover that Billy only stole in order to bail his dog Pal out of the pound. Moved by this fact, Judge Roger Davis and Joan Allan (who are a romantic pair) decide to further investigate, finding out that Billy's dad William Freeman is an army veteran whose life has become a mess due to his weakness for the bottle. Eager to help, Roger and Joan decide to enlist Pal into the military's Dogs for Defense program. After training to work in combat and anti-sabotage situations, Pal emerges as a hero and a leader through the familial hardships that follow.

| | Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who! DVD (2008) Full Frame; Widescreen; Dubbed; Subtitled
$15.09 Based on the 1954 children's book by Dr. Seuss, HORTON HEARS A WHO! is a 2008 computer-animated Hollywood update of the beloved illustrated tale. Horton (voiced by Jim Carrey), a thoughtful elephant living in the jungle of Nool, discovers that an entire society, Whoville, rests inside a speck. He gently rests it on a clover flower, and searches for a place where it will be safe from the perils of the larger world. Establishing contact with Whoville's befuddled mayor (Steve Carell), Horton faces disbelief from his animal friends, including his blue mouse pal, Morton (Seth Rogen), and unwittingly incurs the wrath of an uptight kangaroo (Carol Burnett), setting the playful pachyderm on a journey to the most remote parts of Nool, with malicious vultures and monkeys not far behind.
Executive produced by Chris Wedge, the creator of ICE AGE, and directed by Steve Martino and Jimmy Hayward, this CGI take on Seuss (aka Theodore Geisel) is the first 21st-century adaptation to hew closely to the artist's true spirit and visual style. While Carrey, Carell, Burnett, and the rest of the vocal talent (also including Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, and Jonah Hill) contribute lively performances, the animation is the real focus of the film, displaying a stunning array of colorful characters and landscapes that capture Seuss's wonderfully whimsical aesthetic. Though Seuss loyalists might be dismayed by some liberties taken (particularly a Japanese anime-style interlude and a brief musical number set to a REO Speedwagon hit), the movie's heart is in the right place, resulting in a topnotch family feature.
The voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell are featured in this animated version of the Dr. Seuss story.
