| My favourite musical.
This is definitely a Robert Preston film - I can't think of any other artist who could play the part. The music and the choregoraphy are excellent, the library sequence is superb and the grand finale s triumph in film musicals.

| Simpsons and Family Guy owe this movie royalties...
Whether its Homer and the Monorail episode, where the flim-flam artist comes in to sell Springfield a monorail before he skips town or Peter on the New England Patriots singing Shipoopi when he scores a touchdown, this musical is something that needs to be seen by ALL YOUNG PEOPLE EVERYWHERE so they can even UNDERSTAND the jokes that are being given to them. Timeless. And apparently easily turned into modern story lines.

This is my favorite movie/musical! When I watched The Music Man, I felt as if I was right there in River City, Iowa. No one could have done a better job as Harold Hill or Marian Paroo than Robert Preston and Shirley Jones. They fit the roles perfectly. No one could have made a better musical than this!
