Standard Screen; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Director's Comments Two main issues are complicating the lives of the Irish, Long Island-based, working-class McMullen brothers: Catholicism and women.
Jack is the married oldest brother who's cheating on his perfect wife. Barry is the relationship-wary middle brother who, to his surprise and dismay, is finally falling in love. But Patrick, the most religious brother, ironically is the one who must deal with issues of premarital sex and abortion--a situation that leaves him consumed with guilt. Fortunately for the siblings, however, they're all temporarily living under the same roof, where they can discuss their problems and philosophies--and help each other make it through this troubled time. Three Irish-Catholic brothers living in Long Island--a "serious" Catholic worried about his relationship with a Jewish woman, a steadfast husband having an affair, and a commitment-phobe being pressured by a girlfriend--talk over their romantic entanglements. The 27-year-old writer-director-producer-star, Ed Burns, won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance for this debut. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.
Independent Spirit Award winner for best first feature.
Director Edward Burns shot the film on a shoestring budget--on weekends--over a period of eight months. He used his own family's home as the main set.
Initially released on 7 screens in the USA on August 4, 1995. The film had an opening weekend box office gross of $60,276.
Color by DuArt.
A Marlboro Road Gang Productions presentation, in conjunction with Videography Productions and The Brothers McMullen Prods.

Brothers Mcmullen review
$12.89 Keir Fraser and James Braddell return once again to their 9 Lazy 9 moniker after a three-year absence. Sweet Jones is the group's best yet, on par with the high standards of Braddell's Funki Porcini records as of late. Like Funki Porcini, 9 Lazy 9 make relaxation records for the spaced-out adding a breezy Mediterranean feel comparable to Atom Heart's dope and pina colada excursions. Electronic horns and xylophones rub against a handful of guest musicians on bassoon, flute and acoustic guitar. It's all put together with just a bit of a smirk, but Fraser and Braddell seem to favor lounge music enough not to parody it. The only thing to quibble about is "Grazing ...

Brothers Mcmullen review
$7.75 Dominique Deruddere's EVERYBODY'S FAMOUS, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2001 Academy Awards, is a charming Belgian film about the lengths to which people will go to achieve fame and fortune. Josse De Pauw stars as Jean, a factory worker who dreams about becoming a successful songwriter, supplying would-be hits to his daughter, Marva (Eva van der Gucht), whom he drags through talent contests in which she performs terribly. Marva has no self-confidence; overweight and antagonistic, she never pays much attention to her father's schemes to make her a star. But everything changes when the factory closes down, Jean's car conks out on a country road, and he receives help from a woman on a bicycle--who ...
