||Better than "The Patriot"|
This is a guy movie. Yes, it has a love story, but it is a trick. Do not watch it with your girlfriend. It is a guy movie through and through. Constant action. Cool, realistic fight choreography. Excellent casting. Breath-taking scenery and photography. A little indian philosophy is thrown in for good measure. I rate this movie similar to, but better than, "The Patriot" with Mel Gibson.

||Breathtaking - One of the Best Historical Movies around|
The scenery, music, actors unbelievalbly awesome. I could see this movie over and over again. The detail to the period down to the tatoos on the Indians and realistic scenes just take your breath away. All history buffs of that era this is a must to see!!! P.S. the VHS version is better than the DVD. Perhaps Michael Mann and 20th Century Fox will redo the DVD and put back what was in the original and add he love scenes between Alice and Uncas that were cut out.

||Greatest war epic ever|
Director Michael Mann's "The Last of the Mohicans" is the definitive version based on the 1936 script and Cooper's novel. Last of the Mohicans video History comes alive in this excellent war epic with spirited performances by Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeline Stowe and the wonderful, but underrated, Wes Studi as Magua. This action adventure takes place during The French & Indian War in 1757 (The Massacre at Fort William Henry, 9. -10. August) and Mann has tried recreate the time period in every possible way. This goes for the languages, clothing, uniforms, a replica of the fort in full scale plus the cannon and mortars used! I'm not an expert, but I think these important ingredients have enhanced the film - and the story - a lot. Michael Mann's presence is felt in many ways, especially in the action scenes, some of which was shot during the night, the rotating cameras and close-ups. And then there's the marvellous soundtrack composed by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman. Not surprisingly the movie won an Academy Award for best sound. But the cinematography alone is stunning. You really do feel transported back to another time, like a childhod fantasy that has come true. This DVD edition is the same as the original shown in movie theaters and the surround sound mix features Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 and it's THX digitally mastered. Great entertainment!

||NOT better than "The Patriot"|
This movie doesn't even come close to touching "The Patriot's" action and suspense.

This is a very favorite movie of mine ,HOWEVER, parts of it have been cut out, I would like to return it for an original copy. Even if it costs more! Sincerly Steve Turkington.
