DVD. Feature film. Rated PG. 104 min. This riotous throwback to the slapstick comedy of the vaudeville era is inventively written, directed, co-produced, and performed by Stanley Tucci (BIG NIGHT). He and Oliver Platt play acting partners just trying to catch a break. Down on their luck, they end up as accidental stowaways on an ocean liner. Trapped on the ship, they get involved in hilarious antic after hilarious antic, helped by a fabulous supporting cast including Tony Shalhoub, Lili Taylor, Isabella Rossellini, and the nearly unrecognizable Alfred Molina and Campbell Scott. Reminiscent of MONKEY BUSINESS as well as early Woody Allen (the Woodman actually makes an uncredited appearance in THE IMPOSTORS), the film is a wild romp, expertly put together by Tucci. Impostors Reviews: "...An elegantly designed title sequence....Steve Buscemi's catatonic warbling of 'The Nearness of You' is also worth catching..."
-- Peter Matthews, Sight and Sound "...Tasty....An excellent supporting cast..."
-- Stephen Farber, Movieline's Hollywood Life "...A pleasure, the film is a remarkable showcase for a dozen or so acting staples of contemporary independent cinema..." -- 3 out of 4 stars
-- Mike Clark, USA Today "...[An] eager, fast-paced production....Clever fun..."
-- Glenn Kenny, Premiere "...Tucci and Platt both reveal strong deadpan comedy sensibilities..."
-- Jack Mathews, Los Angeles Times

Impostors Movie Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) brilliant slapstick Just to get it out of the way, yes I gave it five stars, as in "when compared with others of it's genre it shines" kind of five, it's not going to win any awards. What they are doing has been done many times before, but oh do they do it well. When I bought id I'd already seen it before. When I watched it again it was just as much fun.
What you get is a lot, and I mean A LOT, of brilliant actors, all doing their best to be the most overacted stereotypes of film history you can imagine. There is the american swindler couple, the pompous shakespeare actor, the evil terrorist, even a deposed queen! When all these motley characters come together on an ocean cruiser all hell breaks loose, with hilarious consequences.
If you want something deep and meaningful, look elsewhere. If you're looking for entertainment performed to perfection by good actors (so good that they can easily be bad), you can do a lot worse than to buy the Impostors. I'll be watching it again, and again. And I'm sure you will to. They're just such a bunch of charming buggers. ;D Submitted by nkenny (Reykjavik, Iceland (Europe)) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$15.89 Upon the release of this debut album, Massachusetts native Dar Williams quickly won comparisons to Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. Such assessments are complimentary, but Williams doesn't take herself quite as seriously as those seminal soprano folksingers. Williams has a wicked sense of humor. She delivers her witty story-songs in a conversational manner, accompanying her clear, high voice with clean acoustic guitar. Sisters Katryna and Nerissa Nields provide backup vocals on several songs.
Williams is blessed with an excellent memory of her childhood experiences and with a vivid imagination. In "When I Was a Boy," she sings about her adolescence as if she had grown up male. This plaintive and introspective, yet subtly humorous, song typifies about half of the Williams oeuvre. The other half consists of fast-paced, overtly funny recollections and imaginings. "The Babysitter's Here" is a hilarious ode to a babysitter on whom Williams had a crush while growing up. But such is Williams' cleverness that one can never be too sure what is fact here and what is fiction.

$9.79 Bob Balaban, Brad Renfro, Illeana Douglas, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi, Thora Birch - Director: Terry Zwigoff
Terry Zwigoff finally follows up his 1994 breakout success, CRUMB, with this infectious, insightful, and ultimately sad look at teenage angst and boredom in suburbia that recalls such films as WELCOME TO THE DOLLHOUSE and RUSHMORE as well as MTV's excellent DARIA series. The screenplay, written by Zwigoff and Daniel Clowes, is based on Clowes's underground comic book, GHOST WORLD. Best friends Enid and Rebecca have graduated from high school, and now they need to figure out what comes next. Rebecca gets a menial job at a coffee shop and starts looking for an apartment, while Enid wallows in her miserable (Daria-like) worldview, in which all jobs are sellouts and nearly all people are creeps, geeks, and losers. But when she plays a practical ...
