This 80 minute feature film is a DVD starring Om Puri, Rac hel Griffiths, Stellan Skarsgard, and Akbar Kurtha. A bittersweet story about a Pakistani taxicab driver in London who learns the hard way that "multiculturalism" is a myth. Actor Om Puri, typically the villain in Indian cinema, is likeable as the innocent Parvez, who for the first time in his life raises questions about the life he has made for himself and his family in England. The film centers around his relationship with a prostitute (Griffiths of HILARY AND JACKIE). Over time, he seeks refuge in his friendship with Bettina from his estranged family. At the same time, his only son is zealously embracing his Muslim heritage in an effort to fill the void left by his disenchantment with Western ideals. All of these come to a head in this marvelously acted, beautifully written film. My Son, The Fanatic Reviews: "...[A] moving, painfully funny film. In Om Puri's award-caliber performance, the price of happiness is rendingly observed..."
-- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone "...Quirky..." -- Rating: A- - Recommended
-- Entertainment Weekly Staff, Entertainment Weekly "...What is particularly successful about MY SON THE FANATIC is its representation of fundamentalism as solidly modern..."-- Rachel Malik, Sight and Sound "...Written with delicacy and dry humor....It's an atmospheric and persuasively acted film..."
-- Janet Maslin, New York Times "...Wise, funny, troubling, and touching..."-- Glenn Kenny, Premiere "...There's nothing glib about this movie, though despite its dark undertones, it is funny....This is a rockin' little time-rewarder..."
-- Mike Clark, USA Today "...Intelligent, poignant and witty, it involves us in real issues without stinting on their complexity..."
-- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Daily News "...Om Puri's performance is based on the substantial strength of his physical presence, and on his-clear-sighted view of his world as an exile..."
-- Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

$10.29 John Sturges's remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1954 classic THE SEVEN SAMURAI has become an influential film in its own right. $21.59 Approaching the legendary German classic 1922 film NOSFERATU: EIN SYMPHONIE DES GRAUENS by F.W. Murnau with his own unique sensibilities, Werner Herzog establishes a link between himself and the classic days of German cinema and in the process crafts a lush adaptation as well as a classic in its own right. Stark, symbolic cinematography and intensely stylized performances create what Herzog refers to as a different plane of reality, injecting the age-old tale of Count Dracula with a modern sense of mysticism, desire, and wonder.
Frequent Herzog collaborator Klaus Kinski portrays the Dracula character with a silent intensity, tingeing the vampire's inhuman monstrosity with a deep sense of pathos and longing. Completing a stellar ...

My Son, The Fanatic movie DVD
$9.79 RENEGADE is an ambitious hybrid of genres that occupies a liminal space similar to that of its main character, Mike Blueberry (Vincent Cassel). Building on the conventions of the Western and adding psychedelic elements and the sophisticated - albeit atypical - European sensibilities of director Jan Kounen, the result is a fascinating and compelling existential film about self-definition and the untapped regions of the mind.
The film opens with a teenage Blueberry (Hugh O'Conor), a recent transplant to the southwest from the Cajun territory of Louisiana. He quickly becomes embroiled in a battle with local bad guy Wallace Sebastian Blount (Michael Madsen) when Blount gets violent during a visit to prostitute Madeleine, for whom Mike has fallen. Madeleine is killed in the fray, and the injured Mike is run out of town, surviving due only to the kindness of the Indians who find him and take him in. Years later Blueberry, now played by Cassel, has rejoined the white folks to become a town marshal, but when Wallace, who had been presumed dead, blows into town, Mike is forced to face up to some demons from his past. Wallace is accompanied by mysterious Prussian Prosit (Eddie Izzard), who ...

My Son, The Fanatic video
$10.29 Among the scariest movies ever put on celluloid, like its similarly styled sister, RINGU, this tale of death-by-curse is nothing short of blood chilling. With chapters named after each subsequent victim, it plays like a series of increasingly daunting, deadly vignettes. All of the stories surround a haunted house where the evil spirit of a 5-year-old boy still lurks. The first to enter the residence and be cursed is a young hospice worker visiting an elderly client. She finds the boy duct-taped in a closet, where he first appears to her in the form of a black cat, and then shows his human form which is a shockingly ghoulish white face and blackened eyes. Invisible to all except for those who are next to die, his presence seems like a true mystery. But when family members, friends, curious teenagers, and frightened police investigators begin to drop like flies, it is clear that his spirit thrives. Perhaps it is the unsolvable problem of the boy's vengeance that makes the premise so terrifying--his anger and his penalty cannot be curbed. But unforgettable scenes, such as the boy's very dead mother crawling serpentinely down the stairway, deserve the lion's share of the credit for the fearfulness ...
