(7 Customer Reviews)
Live performances were where Mountain always shone, and this document of some of their concert fare shows how they took a rather ordinary song and expanded it with lots of jamming and improvising. The side-long (on vinyl) "Nantucket Sleighride" does show signs of the excess that would plague the band for the rest of its career. A fair example of Mountain live. ~ James Chrispell

| Live: The Road Goes Ever On Music Live: The Road Goes Ever On Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Finally... critics have wised up Maybe it was all the rap samplers that turned the tide ( a big fave with them... check out Corky on Long Red,) but for some strange reason this album was maligned for too long. Hey, kidees this is what heavy rock, proto metal was all about. They weren't as cool as Cream, but they kicked butt. And this version of "Nantucket Sleighride" is the definitive slice of the pie. If you think Black Sabbath 4 or Deep Purple Machinehead were the bees knees, well you better slap this baby on. Also, make sure you get the re-mastered English version.

Mountain At Their Peak Although the original band was on a downhill swing at the time this album was released and would break up soon afterwards , this album shows Mountain at their very best.
One of the best live versions of Nantucket Sleighride ever recorded is showcased and this disc would be worth the price if that was the only song on it.
This disc makes an excellent companion to the live set on Flowers Of Evil and I would strongly suggest buying both together. Submitted by Jim G (Evansville ,IN) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
cccrrruuuusssshhhing & kkkrruunncchhingg! this was the last great mountain album, powerful, intense and truly a masterwork of live heavy rock.Long Red starts it off by turning an early gentler(but still great)Leslie tune into a bombastic stomper,Waiting to take you away is a kinder gentler power ballad with great vocals(Leslie again) and a short but ripping solo to finish it off. Then its Felix turn to sing,Crossroader is just unbelievabley super with decent vocals and great slide and bass throughout,Nantucket Slieghride finishes things off nicely, another great version(20 minutes long I think)the guitar work is stellar, classic mountain, the basswork is phenomenal, corky thumps those drums and Steve fills in the backround with colored textures on the organ.Possibly the best live hard rock act of the day live, too bad things started to slide after this.Buy this over the listless TwinPeaks set, thats not the real band anyway, just a cash reunion tour of japan for the two frontmen. If you like hard and heavy live music, you will really dig this lp Submitted by tom (naples fl usa) Was This Review Helpful? Live: The Road Goes Ever On
$8.95 The album's opening track, "Sweet Leaf," a salute to one of the band's favorite smokeable substances, contains one of metal's heaviest guitar riffs, courtesy of Tony Iommi. Another eternal band favorite is the grim, post-nuclear war tale "Children of the Grave." Vocalist Ozzy Osbourne is in fine voice on "After Forever" and "Lord of this World," while the more tranquil "Solitude" ...

Live: The Road Goes Ever On
$8.65 While the title track is the album's best-known song, SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH proved to be another in a long line of 100% filler-free records from Ozzy and co. Highlights included the creepy "Who Are You?," plus the Tony Iommi riff-mongers "A National Acrobat," "Killing Yourself to Live," and "Sabra Cadabra," a song that Metallica would cover on its 1998 ...

Live: The Road Goes Ever On
$6.15 By the mid-'70s, a number of problems were threatening to break up the original line-up of Black Sabbath. The stress brought on by lengthy touring, drug use, and alcoholism had begun to dilute the band's original, influential heavy metal. Sabbath began to drift away from the straight-ahead power rock of such classic albums as PARANOID and SABBATH BLOODY SABBATH, as evidenced by its final two albums to feature singer Ozzy Osbourne, 1976's TECHNICAL ECSTASY and 1978's NEVER SAY DIE. However, TECHNICAL ECSTASY does contain some intriguing, overlooked tracks.

| | Black Sabbath Paranoid CD (1971)
Live: The Road Goes Ever On
$8.69 PARANOID proved to be Black Sabbath's most focused, consistent, and successful record. Leaving behind the amorphous, extended jams of their debut for focused songs and a more structured sound, Black Sabbath virtually wrote the book on heavy metal with the ominous, unforgettable riffs, thunderous rhythms, and dark themes on this release. There are some up-tempo rockers, the famous title track for one, but for the most part PARANOID oozes along like a bad dream, as on the slinky, creepy opener, "War Pigs," or the lumbering thud ...
| | Black Sabbath Never Say Die! CD (1978)
Live: The Road Goes Ever On
$6.09 By the end of the '70s, though Black Sabbath remained a top concert draw, its albums had become increasingly erratic and sub-par when compared to its earlier master works. Singer Ozzy Osbourne's growing disillusionment with the band had reached a boiling point, especially after it took so long to complete 1978's NEVER SAY DIE, the original line-up's final album. Though the album's title might suggest that the band had reconciled its differences (Osbourne had already left the band once previously, only to ...

Live: The Road Goes Ever On
$35.29 After 2005's Aeronautics, Masterplan experienced some major lineup changes. Singer Jorn Lande and drummer Uli Kusch (of Helloween and Gamma Ray fame) both left the band -- and on 2007's MK II, the newcomers include Mike DiMeo (formerly of Riot) on lead vocals and Mike Terrana (who has played with Yngwie Malmsteen) on drums. But keyboardist Axel Mackenrott and guitarist Roland Grapow (formerly of Helloween) are still on board; in fact, Grapow is the band's leader and produced MK II -- which, despite the personnel changes, is not ...
