| | Thin Lizzy Renegade CD - Import Thin Lizzy Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Digitally remastered by Eddie Shreyer and Brian Slagel (Future Disc).
It is widely agreed among Thin Lizzy fans (and by the band themselves) that their 1981 release, Renegade, was their worst. The raw, rocking Lizzy of the past (Jailbreak, Black Rose, etc.) is nowhere to be found here; in its place is a keyboard-heavy rock band with blatant pop leanings and a production too similar to British heavy metal bands of the early '80s. New guitarist Snowy White never truly fit into the band (both musically and visually), and it was never more apparent than on Renegade. As with its predecessor, Chinatown, heavy drug use plagued the sessions, again resulting in an uninspired, unfocused affair (especially evident in Phil Lynott's flat vocals). The six-minute opener, "Angel of Death," doesn't measure up to past Lizzy epics, while the title track fails at trying to pull on the heartstrings with a tale about a misunderstood youth. The powerful Lizzy of old resurfaces briefly on such rockers as "The Pressure Will Blow," "Leave This Town," and "Hollywood (Down on Your Luck)," but the clean production almost neuters these potential heavy classics. A jazzy experiment, "Fats," proves to be an interesting one, but run-of-the-mill originals like "Mexican Blood" and "It's Getting Dangerous" far outnumber the highlights, making Renegade Lizzy's second disappointing release in a row. ~ Greg Prato
After the release of Renegade, Thin Lizzy's popularity dwindled considerably, but this 1982 album did fare well among other releases by Judas Priest and the Scorpions. It features "Angel of Death," "Hollywood," and the popular title track. ~ John Book

Renegade album
$10.59 These Irish rockers had been perfecting their melodic brand of hard rock long before the galloping "The Boys Are Back in Town" catapulted them onto every car radio in the U.S. Led by singer-bassist Phil Lynott's throaty delivery, the band often achieved a soulful and ringing sound (also thanks in no small part to the band's use of twin lead guitars, whose soaring lines lifted more than a few of Lynott's tunes out of the morass) that was a much-needed counterpart to the sound of the band's more lumpish pounders.
NIGHT LIFE serves as a blueprint for the band's breakthrough album, JAILBREAK, and reveals a hard-working unit poised ...
| | Thin Lizzy Thunder & Lightning CD (1983) (Import) Germany
Renegade CD music
$10.49 Digitally remastered by Eddie Shreyer & Brian Slagel (Future Disc).
THUNDER AND LIGHTNING is a nine track, 1983 recording by hard rockers Thin Lizzy featuring "Thunder And Lightning," "Sun Goes Down," and "Bad Habits."
Thin Lizzy's final studio release, Thunder and Lightning, was their most consistent album since 1979's Black Rose. Guitarist John Sykes replaced Snowy White, and the new blood must have inspired Lynott and company to write some of their best compositions in years. Although a pop-metal production hinders the tracks, there's more of a harder edge present than on their last release, Renegade. While the title track served as the ensuing tour's raging opener, half-baked lyrics detailing a fistfight and an unwarranted synth-solo weakens what should have been a straight-ahead rocker. But such heavies as "This Is the One" and "Cold Sweat" suit the band much better. Lizzy takes a stab at dance-rock with "The Holy War," ...
| | Deep Purple In Rock CD (1970) Special Edition; England
Renegade music CDs
$6.85 British import edition, this includes nine bonus tracks, including remixes, unreleased instrumentals, and in-studio chatter.
With IN ROCK, Deep Purple added vocalist Ian Gillan into the line-up, a decision that irrevocably changed their fortunes. IN ROCK is one of the genre's definitive albums, combining hard-edged riffs with virtuoso technique, topped by Gillan's full-throated roar. Few singers could survive the instrumental power beneath him, but this he does with room to spare, reacting to and emphasizing his colleagues' musical prowess. Chock-full of material destined to become Deep Purple anthems, later releases were evaluated against this trail-blazing, heavy rock collection.
After satisfying all of their classical music kinks with keyboard player Jon Lord's overblown Concerto for Group and Orchestra, ...
| | Thin Lizzy Chinatown CD (1980) (Import) Germany
Renegade songs
$11.99 While Thin Lizzy's previous release, Black Rose, was a focused, inspired hard rock masterwork, its follow-up, 1980's Chinatown, was a letdown. Guitarist Gary Moore was a major reason for the predecessor's success, but he quit during the subsequent tour (eventually replaced by ex-Pink Floyd touring guitarist Snowy White). Also, leader Phil Lynott and guitarist Scott Gorham were indulging heavily in hard drugs by this point, which was obviously taking its toll. And since producer Tony Visconti was not on board again, the lively production that played such a prominent part in the success of their past few releases was noticeably absent. The ...
| | Judas Priest Stained Class CD (1978)
Renegade album
$6.75 Principally recorded at Chipping Norton Studios, Cotswold, England in 1978. Includes liner notes by Judas Priest.
Culled from performances on their mammoth 1986 TURBO tour, Judas Priest's second live album, PRIEST...LIVE! was issued one year later. Including some post-BRITISH STEEL songs, PRIEST...LIVE! doesn't quite measure up to their outstanding earlier live album, 1979's UNLEASHED IN THE EAST, but it has its moments.
Unsurprisingly, plenty of selections from the TURBO album are featured, such as "Out in the Cold," "Turbo Lover," and "Parental Guidance," but "Hot Rockin'," "Don't Go," and several '80s Priest classics are noticeably absent. Still, you can't go wrong with inspired versions of such favorites as "Love Bites," "Some Heads Are Gonna Roll," "Electric Eye," "Living After Midnight," ...
| | Judas Priest Hell Bent For Leather CD (1979)
Renegade CD music
$6.25 The British version of this release is titled KILLING MACHINE.
Principally recorded at Utopia, Basing Street and CBS Studios, London, England in 1978. Includes liner notes by Judas Priest.
Judas Priest's 1979 release, HELL BENT FOR LEATHER (titled KILLING MACHINE in Europe), continued the band's late '70s winning streak, which included such metal classics as SAD WINGS OF DESTINY, SIN AFTER SIN, and STAINED CLASS. Such deliciously heavy tracks as "Delivering the Goods," the title track, the U.K. hit single "Take On the World," and a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)," showed that nobody could touch singer Rob Halford and company when it came to power metal. Landing a spot as the opening act on Kiss' U.S. tour the same year, Priest were gearing up for a major worldwide breakthrough--eventually becoming one of the '80s top heavy metal acts.
In 1979, Judas Priest was growing more and ...
| | Country Gentlemen Complete Vanguard Recordings CD (2002)
Renegade music CDs
$14.65 Hearing a title like The Complete Vanguard Recordings sounds a little daunting, like some of the 12-disc Bear Family boxed sets. Fortunately (or unfortunately, as a matter of fact), the Country Gentlemen only released two LPs for the Vanguard label in the early '70s, so their complete output fit neatly on CD for this 2002 reissue. In this era, the group featured future bluegrass luminaries Doyle Lawson, Ricky Skaggs, Mike Auldridge, and Jerry Douglas alongside the established legends guitarist/vocalist Charlie Waller and banjo player Bill Emerson. With talented artists like these, it comes as no surprise that ...

| | Biohazard State Of The World Address CD (1994)
Renegade songs
$10.19 In the world of metal music, much of the heavy breathing and screaming centers around adolescent rites of passage, often rendered in sci-fi, Saturday-morning cartoon metaphors. To find a group which values the musical intensity of modern metal and thrash, but has something on their mind other than escapism and testosterone, you must journey into the heart of Brooklyn to encounter the power of Biohazard.
On the inside flap of the CD tray card, Biohazard is pictured in reflection against the inscription, "Honor the courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty and country of our Vietnam veterans," a theme close to their heart as depicted on "Remember." Such is the moral tone of STATE OF THE WORLD ADDRESS, in which Biohazard turns their blaring searchlight of rage upon the disturbing day-to-day realities of post-Cold War America.
None of which mean squat to your typical headbanger if not for Biohazard's wild, over-the-top musical signature--a speed-metal wall ...
| | Lester Bowie Great Pretender CD (1981) Digipak
Renegade album
$9.79 The late Lester Bowie was and remains one of the most fascinating of the post-Miles Davis-era trumpet players. Whether in the protean Art Ensemble Of Chicago, or in his parallel solo career, Bowie explored the brass instrument's past while continually updating it. 1981's THE GREAT PRETENDER chronicles the beginnings of his Brass Fantasy (also the occasional name of his band) period, in which Bowie explored ...
