This Scott Walker release from 1969 includes the songs "Seventh Seal," "World's Strongest Man," and "Rhymes of Goodbye," with Walker's inimitable singing style front and center throughout.
Released in 1969, SCOTT 4 caps off a remarkable quartet of records (all issued in the span of less than three years), and arguably stands as Scott Walker's most accomplished album. On this 10-track set, the British-based singer-songwriter unveiled his first collection of entirely original numbers, marking a notable departure from the earlier precedent of having three Jacques Brel tunes per studio outing. Here Walker's utterly distinctive chamber-pop aesthetic appears in more restrained and refined form, as revealed on the urgent-yet-graceful "The Seventh Seal" (based on the revered Ingmar Bergman film of the same name) and the gentle, meditative "Boy Child." Those looking for the pomp-and-circumstance of earlier Walker material will find hints of it on "The Old Man's Back Again (Dedicated to the Neo-Stalinist Regime)," but the predominant mood of SCOTT 4 is set by lush and layered, though relatively subtle, string arrangements that perfectly complement his deep, expressive voice. While Walker would issue other important and intriguing recordings in the decades that followed, this album marks the end of his highly influential late-'60s heyday.

Scott 4 album
$15.29 Perhaps not even Scott Walker truly understands this record, which isn't to say that it it's not one of the most ambitious and ultimately rewarding musical experiences of the last few years; it's just that exactly what Walker was thinking when he made TILT remains a mystery to this day. Even Brian Eno, a huge Walker fan and no stranger to the avant-garde, apparently had to walk away from the sessions early on in the recording.
Longtime Scott Walker fans shouldn't expect either the Brechtian song-stories of his solo material, or his Spector-influenced work with The Walker Brothers. ...
| | Elliott Smith Xo CD (1998)
Scott 4 CD music
$11.99 The Cinderella-esque climb from lo-fi indie cult artist to Grammy nominee/major label darling must have been a perilous one for Smith, who makes the leap to the big time here after three well-regarded albums on small labels. He's lost none of his bite, though. The production values on XO may be slightly higher, but Smith's vision remains undiluted.
The production, centered around acoustic guitar augmented by keyboards and lush vocal harmonies, recalls pop icons like the Beach Boys (especially on the closing acapella cut), Beatles and Big Star, but this is no sunny Cali-pop album. Leavening the instrumental brightness are Smith's Nick Drake-ish whisper and his thoroughly ...

| | Best Of Tony Joe White Featuring "Polk Salad Annie." CD (1993)
Scott 4 music CDs
$6.09 Twenty tracks from 1969-1973, the period of Tony Joe White's greatest success, including "Polk Salad Annie" and White's own version of his composition "Rainy Night in Georgia." Most of this is quality swamp rock with pop-soul-conscious production; on cuts like "High Sheriff of Calhoun Parrish," it sounds very much like he was trying to achieve a groove in the mold of Bobbie Joe Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe." Sometimes he gets real down-home in a stomping backwoods blues style that makes him sound a little like a White counterpart to John Lee Hooker, as on "Stockholm Blues." If there's any criticism to be levied ...

Scott 4 songs
$23.09 This version of TOMMY includes a 31-page booklet with complete cast and orchestra information, a synopsis, photos, stage directions and lyrics. The Broadway production of Tommy premiered at The St. James Theatre on April 22, 1993.
The Who's TOMMY won the 1994 Grammy Award for "Musical Show Album."
The Broadway cast album of Tommy (called The Who's Tommy presumably to alert Who fans that this really is the stage version of the group's 1969 "rock opera" and not some unrelated Tommy) is the best recording of Peter Townshend's song cycle since the Who did the original; Beatles producer George Martin ...

$14.09 2nd album by Kevin House, acclaimed songwriter/painter* CD booklet is a portfolio of Kevin's folk art deco paintings on old 78rpm records ("The Ear Con Chair Toes")* Musicians include band members from Neko Case, Zubot & Dawson, Be Good Tanyas, Po'Girl, Buttless Chaps, Great Aunt Ida - basically an eclectic combination of key West Coast Vancouver roots and jazz musicians.* "Understated, impressionistic... evocative.." Village VoiceBIOWorld of Beauty is the second album from reknowned painter/songwriter Kevin House - his canvases and installations have earned accolades from the likes of The Village Voice, and others. His debut album, Gutter Pastoral, through sheer weight of international notice, is possibly the most critically lauded album in Bongo Beat's history.Duality is a word that seemed to come up in reviews of Gutter Pastoral. Musically, lyrically, and visually this also holds true for World of Beauty, with Kevin House moving forward with more fully realized and cohesive arrangements. If there were some forgotten Delta where the chanson and folk blues traditions congregated - Serge Gainsbourg, John Fahey, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen, Chet Baker - they are all found wandering around in these songs. Like miniature one act plays set to music; little landscape paintings where something is off kilter; melody and dissonance; clouds and stones. The ...
