(2 Customer Reviews)
Procol Harum's second album garnered high expectations, as it arrived on the heels of the overwhelming success of the single "A Whiter Shade of Pale." By the time of SHINE ON BRIGHTLY, the classic lineup of the band was fully in place. Gary Brooker's blues-based singing was the perfect foil for the majestic sweep of Procol Harum's two-keyboard attack (an approach employed by Dylan in the mid-'60s, and then fully explored by the Band) and Robin Trower's stinging guitar. The title number has retained its staggering beauty and power, undiminished over the decades. Symphonic in scope, the first six songs are all in the three-to-four minute range and mix the earthiness of R&B with the clean lines of classical music. "In Held Twas in I" is an ambitious sidelong piece that clocks in at nearly 18 minutes. Where other progressive outfits of the era following the Beatles' SGT. PEPPER'S album succumbed to music as fashion, Procol Harum backed up its inclinations with solid content.

| Shine On Brightly Music Review Average Rating: (4.5 out of 5 stars) The best CD version of a classic Excellent remaster and notes for the classic 2nd. album by the band.
Even better than the East-West label CD (fewer bonus tracks but better sound and notes).

In Held 'Twas In I This album is very great album for 1968. (Along with The Rolling Stones' "Beggars Banquet", The Beatles "White Album", and the Moody Blues "In Search of the Lost Chord".)"Quite Rightly So" and "Shine on Brightly" are good mirror-imaged songs. "Skip Softly" is a great classical-psychedelic rock song with a haunting organ, loud guitar, and the piano solos almost mirroring Franz Liszt. "Wish me Well" has that feel of a song by Traffic and/or Cream. "Rambling on" is a good story song. "Magdalene (My Regal Zonophone)" is a very good ballad song with haunting mellotrons, a snare drum, and the background singing that sounds like an old radio. "In Held 'Twas In I" is one of the best epic songs ever. It starts with Tibetian chanting followed by a sitar solo on 'Glimpses of Nirvana', then there's 'Teatime at the Circus' with a carnival-like sound, 'Autumn of my Madness' with reverse tracking and sound effects that rival 'Sgt. Pepper' (I found a Paul-is-dead rumor on this song. Paul McCartney was supposed to die in the autumn. And in this song you hear a car horn, ambulances, fire and crying, people talking if they can save him, someone yelling 'Paul! Paul! Paul!', someone trying to get out, and policemen telling people to leave the murder scene.), Then there's 'Look to your soul' with the best harpsichord playing that sounds like something from 'The Addams Family', and then there's a 'Grand Finale' which came from a classical piece. A must for any Art-Rock and Procol Harum fan. And these guys SHOULD get into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame! Submitted by Paul (Cleveland, Ohio, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Shine On Brightly music CDs
$13.15 Whitesnake, the pop-metal band featuring former Deep Purple singer David Coverdale, released the album COME AN' GET IT in 1981.
Despite the massive talents of vocalist David Coverdale and his supporting cast of musicians (not to mention the unimpeachable resumé of producer Martin Birch), Come an' Get It was another maddeningly average Whitesnake album. A thoroughly boring set that played it too safe and yielded no lasting live favorites, Come an' Get It was competent to the max -- in the hands of a debuting artist, it may have qualified as a classic -- but for a near-supergroup of such experience and pedigree, it instead smacked of severe underachievement. Rare highlights ...

Shine On Brightly songs
$16.29 A SALTY DOG...PLUS contains the complete 1969 original release plus 6 rare or previously unreleased bonus tracks.
This German import reissue is packaged in a digipak and contains the bonus track "Long Gone Geek."
Procol Harum, who reached an astounding peak with their 1967 debut, achieved further heights with each successive release up to A SALTY DOG, their third. This album mixes heartfelt singing with orchestral grandeur and an R&B-based rhythm section (B.J. Wilson is one of the great unsung drummers of the '60s and '70s). The band easily and honestly moves from the symphonic mini-epic of the title track to the bluesy "The Milk of Human Kindness." The dual keyboards offer a regal sheen ...

$11.39 Born and raised in Phoenix, AZ. At age 13, Virus began rappin’ on the porch for the fun of it. He spent his time in high school doing freestyle battles that evolved into producing mix-tapes and performing live. In 2002, he recorded his first solo project in his living room. Under the name Mr. Mask, 200 copies of "Intoxication" were printed and handed out on the streets for free. Virus then began working on his first professionally recorded project titled, “Professor Virus.” 1000 copies were printed and sold within only a few months! In 2005, Virus released, “The American Dream” that was a tribute to his Juggalo fan-base.A few months later, Possibilities Are Endless Distribution (PAED) opened to the public. The PAED shop serviced musicians across the nation, specializing in retail, studio recording, and live performance. With a stage in the front, a recording studio in the back, and a store filled with merchandise (CDs, T-shirts, misc, etc.), the shop was the first and only of it’s kind. However, due to a conflict of interest with his business partner, Virus sold his half of the shop and invested in printing 5,000 copies of a local compilation called, “Arizona’s Under the Underground Compilation.” 100 copies were given to each artist to promote individually, and the rest were ...
