1997 Japanese reissue of their 1993 debut smash with five bonus tracks: 'Pop Is Dead', 'Inside My Head', 'Million Dollar Question', 'Sleep' (Live) and 'Ripchord' (Live). 17 tracks total, also featuring the hits 'Creep' and 'Stop Whispering'. An EMI release.
Radiohead: Thom E. Yorke (vocals, guitar); Ed O'Brien (guitar, background vocals); Jon Greenwood (guitar, piano, organ); Colin Greenwood (bass); Phil Selway (drums). Producers: Paul Q. Kolderie, Chris Hufford, Sean Slade. Engineers: Paul Q. Kolderie, Chris Hufford, Sean Slade. Recorded at Chipping Norton Studio and Courtyard Studio, Oxon, England. Japanese reissue features five bonus tracks. Radiohead's debut album, Pablo Honey, is a promising collection that blends U2's anthemic rock with long, atmospheric instrumental passages and an enthralling triple-guitar attack that is alternately gentle and bracingly noisy. The group has difficulty writing a set of songs that are as compelling as their sound, but when they do hit the mark -- such as on "Anyone Can Play Guitar," "Blow Out," and the self-loathing breakthrough single "Creep" -- the band achieves a rare power that is both visceral and intelligent. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine Before the breakthrough that was THE BENDS and the colossal OK COMPUTER, there was the quietly magnificent PABLO HONEY. "Creep" was the surprise hit single in the UK, but even that gave scant indication of how special this band would become. Benefiting from a raw production, the debut was undoubtedly less slick and accomplished than subsequent work, although Thom Yorke's vulnerable but impressive vocal styling was already in place on songs such as "Stop Whispering." Many of the compositions were somewhat simplistic, but in terms of musical maturity Radiohead were clearly years ahead of their time. An indispensable album, it should not be parted from its two big brothers.
Rolling Stone (p.64) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "Amid blustery post-punk and a heavy-breathing acoustic 'Creep' were dystopian fever dreams and catchy Luddite paranoia.." Entertainment Weekly (5/28/93, p.56) - "...mates Smiths-type self-consciousness with dramatic U2-like vocals and guitar, with Cure-style heavy but crunchy pop..." - Rating: B Q (4/93, p.86) - 3 Stars - Good - "...British teenagerhood has never been grumpier....the best bits rival Nirvana, Dinosaur Jr. and even the mighty Sugar..." NME (Magazine) (12/25/93, p.67) - Ranked #35 in New Musical Express' list of `The Top 50 LPs Of 1993' - "...is a throwback to a homegrown tradition of great guitar-band albums...." Record Collector (magazine) (p.89) - 3 stars out of 5 -- "[I]t contains their 'biggest' single in 'Creep.' A 12-bar blues jam with added crunch..." Pablo Honey Review

Pablo Honey
$5.89 Re-issue of the limited Radiohead mini-album, originally released in 1998.
Radiohead: Thom Yorke, John Greenwood, Ed O'Brien, Colin Greenwood, Phil Selway. All tracks except track 1 were previously unavailable in the United States. AIRBAG/HOW AM I DRIVING? was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Performance. Once the incredible OK Computer went platinum, proving (at last) to be as impressive to the populace as to the press, Capitol salivated for quick new product, with a new LP two years away. Fortunately for the company that made Sinatra and the Beatles famous, their powerhouse Oxford five had been releasing B-sides in the U.K., on the back of the singles "Paranoid Android," "Karma Police," and "No Surprises." Presto!! Out pops this seven-song mini-LP, ...

Pablo Honey
$4.49 Personnel: Chuck Negron, Danny Hutton, Cory Wells (vocals); Mike Allsup (guitar); Jimmy Greenspoon (keyboards); Floyd Sneed (drums). Unknown Contributor Role: Three Dog Night. This double-CD set will likely be of special interest to fans of Three Dog Night -- even to more casual listeners with long memories -- since the contents of the second disc, Around the World with Three Dog Night, have never before been on CD, and that was a massively popular double-live LP. The Three Dog Night catalog has never exactly been given priority treatment by Universal Music Group, which is rather astonishing considering the sales the group generated across the decades -- Three Dog Night and Steely Dan between them practically kept ABC-Dunhill Records afloat during the '70s, and the septet has sold millions of CDs for Universal (then MCA), which took over ABC's catalog following the latter's bankruptcy. Yet Universal, apart from the two-disc anthology Celebrate, never upgraded any of the group's material until just a few years ago, and that was limited to their hits. So it's fallen to other labels, such as Gottdiscs and now Edsel in England, to get improved sounding Three Dog Night CDs out there, and that's what Edsel has done with this set, devoted to the albums Seven Separate Fools and Around the World with Three Dog Night. The improved sound offers a serious pay-off for anyone who really cares about the group's music; the quieter, crisper digital transfers bring out the softest acoustic guitar passages in beautiful relief, as on "Pieces of April," and the mix of voices comes off as sweeter (downright exquisite, in fact) here than on prior CD releases, which lacked the detail and presence. It might not have been the highest charting single in the group's history when it was issued in that format following the release of the album, but it was the group's ability to do romantic ballads such as that, as well as the harder sounding songs for which they were best known, that helped them gather and keep more fans than even their chart success would have led one to believe possible. The closer sound also gives the rhythm section more presence, and generally the improvements over the existing U.S. CD version make this a priority acquisition for anyone who wants more than the basic hits, and this group had a lot more to offer than those hits, as demonstrated here: the Russ Ballard-authored, anthemic hard rock number "Chained," where the band (especially guitarist Mike Allsup) pushes their amplifiers to "10" and Danny Hutton and Chuck Negron push hard on the lead vocals, while Cory Wells, joined by Hutton and Negron, mix the harmonies, is ...

| | Young Lyfe Real Lyfe CD (2006)
Pablo Honey
$11.39 The LBC is back on the map with a new beginning. It has been over a decade since Long Beach, California, natives Snoop Doggy Dogg and Tha Dogg Pound burst onto the scene, selling millions of albums. Young Lyfe is here to reestablish Long Beach's place in hip-hop music, and there is no better candidate, for he grew up around those that first made it happen. Born William Landrum, Young Lyfe did not have an easy childhood, living with his mother who was addicted to Valium. Her addiction made her too lethargic to work, resulting in frequent evictions and sometimes living out of a car. At fifteen, William was fed up. He packed all of his belongings into a trash bag, walked to a pay phone, and called his father. He lived with his dad for the remainder of his youth. In 1988 William fell in love with rap music after hearing Eazy E's first single, and he was inspired to pick up the mic. He sent Ruthless Records a demo, but never heard from them. To William's dismay, about a year later J.J. Fad came out using that exact style, indicating William was already ahead of his time. William's long time comrade, the late Radio, mentored William, advising him not to quit and encouraging him to improve. William remains grateful to Radio for being the first rapper to put it down for the LBC. In 1996 William's father started Low Life Records after learning William and his sister Kola Loc (later of Doggy's Angels fame) were serious about rapping. William chose the stage name Young Lyfe, a variation of his father's nickname, Big Low Life. Their studio was located next door to the infamous VIP Records in Long Beach. Big Low Life gathered young, fresh artists from the LBC and mixed them with veterans from Tha Dogg Pound and their affiliates to put together a compilation. Shortly before the album was completed, the studio was robbed of everything, including the compilation masters. Young Lyfe was devastated, but nothing was going to stop his dream. Low Life Records remade the compilation, calling it "Escape from Death Row." The title is a not-so-subtle reference to many of the guest artists' former work with Death Row Records. This was Young Lyfe's first appearance on a major release. It hit stores in 1999 on Low Life/Private I/Universal Records. Although the compilation had the streets buzzing, it was not a financial success, in part due to label problems. Low Life Records folded soon after. Young Lyfe and his father then moved to Portland, Oregon. There was a lull in Young Lyfe's career until 2004, when he joined Paperchase Records and began work on his debut solo album entitled, ...
