| Good Music: Terrible CD Mastering This was a "one-off" album that Roger Waters did for a movie. It's psychedelic and silly, a bit like early Pink Floyd. By a reviewer (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) |

Jethro Tull Nothing Is Easy: Live at the Isle of Wight 1970 CD (2004)
Music from The Body buy CD music There is an energetic raggedness to the playing here that seems strangely out of keeping with the meticulous, art-rock constructions usually associated with Tull. But the raw, churning energy works creates magic charm, with Martin Barre's crunching electric guitar and Clive Bunker's thunderous drumming surging to the fore. In fact, Tull are at their best in this performance on "Dharma for One," which merges blasts of hard-hitting rock noise with Anderson's incantatory vocals and lyrical ruminations on intellectual and spiritual themes. In addition to capturing Jethro Tull's contribution to the Isle of Wight festival for posterity, NOTHING IS EASY is a vivid snapshot of one of the '70s most revered prog-rock bands in their fiery youth.
The legendary 1970 Isle of Wight festival is sometimes thought of as England's Woodstock. Alongside such strange bedfellows as Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, and Tiny Tim, Jethro Tull put on a raucous, energetic stage performance captured here on NOTHING IS EASY. Even through their loudly amplified, festival-sized sound, the true Tull hallmarks are here, including Ian Anderson's haunting, minstrel-esque flute lines ("Bouree") and folky, acoustic guitar-driven compositions, which touch on weighty ...

Rod Stewart Foot Loose & Fancy Free CD (1977) Top Seller
Music from The Body CD music Kicking off with the swagger and machismo of one of the quintessential 70's anthems, "Hot Legs," FOOT LOOSE AND FANCY FREE is a blistering joyride, a swaggering period piece that, like all of Rod's best work, immerses itself in the prevalent style of the time-- by 1977, funk-tinged rock was all the rage, and FOOT LOOSE is a carnival of wah-wah guitars ("You're Insane"), epic arrangements ("You Just Keep Me Hanging On"), and unabashed earnestness (the nostalgic and confessional "I Was Only Joking.") FOOT LOOSE's greatest contribution to the Stewart canon has to be "You're In My Heart," a timely, sensitive classic that stirs in just enough breathy whimsy to its strangely down-home feel (bluegrass violins and U.K. football references not being one of your more common pairings in pop music) to create yet another milestone in Stewart's varied and timeless career.

Jethro Tull Under Wraps CD (1984)
Music from The Body songs After revisiting some typically Tull motifs on 1982's BROADSWORD AND THE BEAST and releasing a solo album in 1983, Ian Anderson resurrected the Jethro Tull name in 1984 with UNDER WRAPS. He once again opted to distance himself from the Jethro Tull image of olde. Throughout the '80s Anderson gamely tried various approaches toward recasting Tull for a musical climate that had changed radically from the band's '70s heyday.
On UNDER WRAPS, Anderson shares songwriting credits with keyboardist Peter-John Vettesse, whose electronic textures give the record its pronounced '80s feel. Lyrically, Anderson seems to have jettisoned the past as well. On songs like "Radio Moscow" and "Paparazzi" he addresses modern concerns via topical language and bleeping keyboards. Anderson shows he still has his knack for a crisp and evocative melody on the relatively stripped-down title track and the simple, catchy "Lap of Luxury."
Key ingredients of the Under Wraps tour in 1984 were naked ladies bursting out of paper bags, astronaut moonwalking on stage, disturbing drum machine rhythms, 80’s keyboards galore and a vocal crisis in the making. With the advent of the then new digital technology and more sophisticated synthesizers, Jethro Tull embarked on a largely electronic album of songs mostly devoted to spies, secrecy and subterfuge. The songs are good and the playing of M. Barre and D. Pegg was brilliant. Anderson’s vocals were as good as they would ever be, extending his usually limited range and power like never before.
Enhancements include a video for "Lap of Luxury."
Jethro Tull: Ian Anderson , Martin Barre, Peter-John Vettese.
Personnel: Ian Anderson (vocals, guitar, acoustic guitar, flute, drums); Martin Barre (electric guitar); Peter-John Vettese (keyboards, percussion); Dave Pegg (acoustic bass, electric bass).

Richard Wright Broken China CD (1996)
Music from The Body album for sale Inspired by a friend's battle with clinical depression, Broken China is an intriguing effort from Richard Wright. Throughout the album, Wright explores African polyrhythms along with new-age and classical instrumental textures, creating a shimmering series of soundscapes that revel in its own moodiness. For listeners unwilling to follow Wright through his sonic paintings, the two tracks featuring vocals by Sinead O'Connor -- "Reaching for the Rail" and "Breakthrough" will be more digestable, yet any fan of Pink Floyd's most ambient moments will find something of interest here, although the worldbeat rhythms may be intially off-putting. ~ Rodney Batdorf
Sophomore solo album from the late, great Rick Wright, best known as the keyboardist with Pink Floyd. Originally released in 1996, Broken China is a musical exploration of the four phases one might experience during clinical depression. While the atmosphere of the album is very much like Floyd, Wright takes the listener to darker, more abstract places with his music. Features guest appearances from Sinead O'Connor, Pino Palladino, Kate St. John, Dominic Miller and others. The cover art by Storm Thorgerson is brilliant. EMI.

Rod Stewart Blondes Have More Fun CD (1978) Top Seller
Music from The Body CD music The breathier, rootsier classics of FOOT LOOSE AND FANCY FREE now firmly in place in the increasingly legendary Stewart canon, BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN saw the peroxided one continuing to change with the times. From the opening staccato bass and fluffy keyboard riffs of the album's classic "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy," the disco age had arrived, though, thankfully, it left Stewart's unique blend of charm and anger (the accusatory "Is That All The Thanks I Get?") intact, still his scratchy, sexy self against the album's backdrop of unabashedly commercial material (this was his best seller to date).
Not that rock was ever off the agenda, as stated unarguably by the rollicking, rebellious I-IV-V rant of the title track. "Last Summer" bears all the earmarks of mellow FM rock (notably the flanged guitars and "jazzy" flute). The honest, close-up vocal take and deft fingerstyle guitar work of "The Best Days Of My Life" combine with slick songcraft and grandiose string arrangements to epitomize the commercial transition in Stewart's career that was marked by BLONDES HAVE MORE FUN.

When the Wind Blows CD (1987)
Music from The Body buy CD music Raymond Briggs' animated tale about an elderly British couple living out their last days after the bomb has dropped spawned this hit-and-miss soundtrack, with contributions from Squeeze, David Bowie, Genesis, and a lengthy coda from Roger Waters and the Bleeding Heart Band. Bowie's "When the Wind Blows" and Genesis' "The Brazilian" seem to carry the most flow musically, and the ten-part medley from Waters and his studio team has its moments, but for the most part it drags and sputters with boggy instrumental staleness. Only "Folded Flags" seems to associate with the movie's cold war theme the best, and some relatively smooth saxophone playing from Mel Collins helps to resuscitate things a wee bit. Dialogue from both characters is woven between each song, enhancing their naïve outlook and their false hope for the "powers that be." Hugh Cornwell's "Facts and Figures" and Paul Hardcastle's "The Shuffle" are short on amiability and come off as poorly manufactured, weakened by run-of-the-mill '80s rhythms. When the Wind Blows tries hard to bind ties with the actual movie, which is splendid in itself, but aside from a few effective tracks, the soundtrack remains quite pedestrian. ~ Mike DeGagne
Score by Roger Waters, plus the main theme sung by David Bowie.
