Unjustly qualified as one of the '80s best American-made progressive metal albums, Crimson Glory's Transcendence is actually one of the decade's best pure metal albums by an American band, period. Sure, they shared many sonic traits with fellow '80s metal bands like Queensr˙che and Fates Warning, but Crimson Glory's songwriting was relatively straightforward by comparison, and generally shied away from ultra-complex prog rock arrangements employed by their peers. In fact, barnstormers like "Lady of Winter" and "Red Sharks" are almost ordinary in their no-frills headbanging intensity, and even the band's more "progressive" material, such as the ambitious "Burning Bridges" and the very eclectic "Eternal World," don't venture out that far. Instead, Crimson Glory show commendable restraint in their songwriting, and it is singer Midnight who ends up drawing the most unwanted attention due to his now dated, painfully strident delivery. On the other hand, not even the intervening years have managed to dull the sheen of nuggets like the majestically sparse title track or the impressive "In Dark Places," which remains one of the group's crowning achievements, thanks to its instantly recognizable riff. And although their Iron Maiden influences sometimes get the best of them (the Eastern-flavored "Masque of the Red Death" is a near remake of "Powerslave"), Crimson Glory still prove their worth with this excellent release. Sadly, the band wouldn't capitalize on its promise, following it with the disappointing Strange and Beautiful. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

CLASSIC PROG METAL This CD perhaps has the greatest song in prog metal called "Lonely" and the rest of the Cd is nothing short of brilliant! I can't even convey how good this CD is into words that do it any justice whatsoever. I hear Midnight is back singing but that is all the information I know as of now. A complete masterpiece!! This album is simply put brilliant! For anyone to say this album is cheesy is immature to music. This is great prog metal (80's prog metal).Every song on here is amazing and i find myself listening to the whole album night after night. The band also does not wear make-up where anyone got that from is beyond me. Some songs to pay attention to are Lonely (one of the most beautiful metal ballads ever),Painted Skies,Burning Bridges and Transcendence, but then again every song is amazing.Great vocals by Midnight and the guitar work of Drenning is amazing.Everything about this album is excellent.Have a listen and youll see why! Transcendence album
$7.39 Much like the English punk movement before it, the New Wave of British Heavy Metal invaded hundreds of American garages in the early '80s and launched countless bands across the nation. It is interesting to note, however, that while in major cities with thriving punk rock this phenomenon manifested itself in the form of thrash metal (for example, L.A.'s Metallica, New York's Anthrax), in secondary capitals, up-and-coming bands generally boasted a more mainstream metal approach. Such was the case with Phoenix's Armored Saint, Connecticut's Fates Warning, and Seattle's Queensryche, but Metal Church (also from Seattle) seemed determined to cover both angles on ...
| | Metal Church Dark CD (1987)
Transcendence CD music
$7.69 Metal Church's excellent debut had impressed critics and fans alike with its ferocious blend of classic metal and thrash. But by the time they released its follow-up, 1986's The Dark, the band seemed to be struggling with their direction and wrestling with internal problems. The fact that they were collectively one of the most unattractive bands ever (even by heavy metal standards) didn't help matters either, especially in image-conscious America, so it was no surprise when the band's appeal remained firmly confined to the metal underground. Which is too bad, since The Dark contained some of the group's best material, including the brutal intensity of "Start the Fire" and "Method to Your Madness," as well as what was probably their best-known song, the astoundingly heavy epic "Watch the Children Play." Extensive touring with Elektra labelmates Metallica had also motivated the band to develop their thrashier inclinations, resulting in vicious moshers like "Ton of Bricks" and "Over My Dead Body." ~ Eduardo Rivadavia

| | Dio Holy Diver CD (1983)
Transcendence music CDs
$7.29 Despite recording two hit studio albums with Black Sabbath (1980's HEAVEN AND HELL and 1981's THE MOB RULES) and playing throughout the world to huge crowds, Ronnie James Dio left the band in 1982-the year of his final release with Sabbath, the in-concert LIVE EVIL. As soon as the announcement of his departure was made official, Dio began to put together his first solo project. Joining him were former Rainbow bandmate Jimmy Bain on bass, former Sabbath bandmate Vinny Appice on drums, ex-Sweet Savage guitar hero Vivian Campbell, and newcomer Claude Schnell on keyboards.
HOLY DIVER, Dio's band debut, was issued ...

$17.45 Though they'd formed as early as 1982, it's obvious from the very first moments of Crimson Glory's 1986 self-titled debut that the band's creative enlightenment had only arrived with Queensr˙che's acclaimed The Warning album, which had set a new standard for British-derived American metal the previous year. To their credit, however, Crimson ...

| | Whitesnake 1987 CD (1987)
Transcendence music CDs
$9.99 The European release of Whitesnake's commercial breakthrough is actually their eponymous American release retitled 1987. The differences are small, but they are enough to make it interesting. The first difference is the track order, which is very different. The album seems to flow a little better the way it is presented here, especially when utilizing "Still of the Night" as the opening track. This has always been one of their best songs, and by far one of the best Led Zeppelin rip-offs to ever be written. There are also two more songs than on the American release, making it ...
| | New Model Army Love Of Hopeless Causes CD (1993) (Import) United Kingdom
Transcendence songs
$12.45 This is a reissue of New Model Army's 1993 album. This post-punk classic includes the tracks "Here Comes The War" and "My People."
The band's first (and last) album for Epic records, was powered by the familiar New Model Army themes -- a world out of control, the hope and despair of inevitable change, and the fury of the dispossessed -- all treated with customary vitriol, yet an undercurrent tugs at the listener. Justin Sullivan's lyrics are even more personal and pointed; instead of merely observing and commenting, he seems to be searching on this album. This bundle of songs garnered more attention in the U.S. from the inclusion of instructions (freely available on the Internet) for making a nuclear bomb with the first single, "Here Comes the War." "White Light" is a great example of the tribal beliefs that the band ...
