Live '99 music CDs Son Jarocho is a traditional musical style from the South of Veracruz, a Mexican state along the Gulf of Mexico. It represents a fusion of indigenous, Spanish, and African musical elements, reflecting the population which evolved in the region from before Spanish colonial times. Soneros del Tesechoaciˇn is one of the most important bands playing and preserving traditional Son Jarocho. Every year in July they organize and host a festival in Playa Vicente which has been running for 9 years, becoming one of the most important festivals of its kind. They do this without much financial means or support. The profits from this album will be used for the festival. Antonio Munohierro and Leonardo Heiblum conceived the idea for this CD and DVD since they met the Soneros del Tesechoaciˇn, surprised by the powerfull and original son jarocho style played by the band, which recalls the tranquility and lightness of life by the banks of the River Tesechoaciˇn. One of the most important objectives was to portray this lifestyle in the album and documentary directed by Munohierro. This is why they took the decision to record Arribita del Rio using a Palapa (Roof made with palm trees) next to the river, as a recording studio. They took all the necessary equipment to the municipality of La Isla, Oax. trying not to change the environment where this music is generated, but rather to adapt the technology so that great legendary singers, such as 92 year old Don Higinio Tadeo "El Negro" and Felix Regalado and musicians like Quintiliano Duriˇn and Lorenzo Sanchez "La Bonga" could participate in a daily environment to achieve the style of this fascinating genre with the particular mark of the region on the shores of the Tesechoaciˇn. After 10 days of recording by the river, the mix was done by Leonardo Heiblum, and took months of arduous and painstaking work in the city of Mexico, trying to remain faithful to the original sound. Finally, in the end of 2010 they mastered the music with Scott Hull at Masterdisk in New York Studio.
