(1 Customer Review)
BEST OF THE SHADOWS, release in 1997 by, is solid documentary catalogue which features the refined sound of early British pop rockers The Shadows. This 19 song collection, which includes "F.B.I.," "Wonderful Land," and "A Little Bitty Tear," highlights the bands melodic guitar lines and smooth percussion.
Starting off with 1961's "F.B.I." and finishing up with 1964's "Temptation," this 19 track set traces the biggies of England's most influential pre-Beatle group. The Shadows were the British equivalent of the Ventures, only even more influential, as lead guitarist Hank Marvin spawned hundreds of disciples in his wake. Although they became best known as pretty boy singer Cliff Richard's backing unit, they scored several instrumental hits on their own and they're all collected here from "Apache" to "The Rise and Fall of Fingel Bunt." One for fans of instrumental rock, early British rock, and just plain great listening. ~ Cub Koda

Best Of The Shadows
$15.59 The Shadows' first trip to the Top Ten of the album charts for seven years since the golden days of their late-'70s revival, Moonlight Shadows was designed for the generation that preferred its music uncomplicated and easy. Despite the accepted brilliance of Hank Marvin in getting a very distinctive sound out of his instrument, here was an album with 16 tracks of contemporary hits ranging from the very recent (at the time of its release) "Every Breath You Take," "Hello," "Against All Odds," and "I Just Called to Say I Love You" back ...

Best Of The Shadows
$8.45 This Australian compilation presents 20 classics by instrumental rock & roll pioneers the Shadows, including "Stardust" and "Brazil."
This CD reissue of a 1987 release finds England's number one instrumental group tackling a batch of old standards in their typical style. Tunes like "Black Is Black," "Stardust," "Ghost Riders in the Sky," "In the Mood," "The Lonely Bull," and "Good Vibrations" get the typical Shadows touch, and the inclusion of old favorites like "Nivram" (lead guitarist's Hank Marvin last name spelled backwards), "Quartermaster's Stores," and "Sacha" (a number one hit in Australia for Marvin as a solo act in 1970) make this a worthy companion to any greatest hits package you might already have on the band. Instrumental fans take note; this one's a good one! ~ Cub Koda
The Shadows only really dominated British pop and rock music for about five years, from late 1958 through 1963, but they've held on to their audience for decades, partly owing to the consistency of their work, especially their singles. This 86-track collection, running 240 minutes, assembles the group's complete singles output from 21 of those years -- and not surprisingly, it's not only pretty good (and sometimes excellent) rock & roll, but also a reflection of some key aspects of ...

| | Sonny Landreth South Of I-10 CD (1995)
Best Of The Shadows
$7.59 All songs written or co-written by Sonny Landreth except "Mojo Boogie" (J.B. Lenoir).
Sonny Landreth's screaming slide guitar plows right into you and carries you along on its feral journey. This CD opens going for your guts and never quits, though at times its touch is more caressing than careening, as in "Cajun Waltz." This CD got a lot of airplay yet never got tiresome, the true test of good music. A wide variety of slide guitar styles, backed by an extremely tight rhythm section and various other New Orleans musicians adds to the pleasure of the album. This music combines the best of zydeco, New Orleans R&B, Cajun, and rock & roll into one mood-elevating experience. Listen to "Mojo Boogie" next to "C'est Chaud," then go on to "Shootin' ...
