A cult act that has become one of Australia's most respected rock acts, the Church present their 1982 album THE BLURRED CRUSADE on this release.
After such a fine debut as Of Skins and Heart, creating a follow-up might have been a burden for the Church -- and maybe it was, but the end result was well worth it. Perhaps even better than their first, Blurred Crusade captures what for many remains the classic early Church sound, blending both the various strains of '60s inspiration and postpunk drive detected from the start with an even more elegant melancholy. Musically, both Willson-Piper and Koppes are just fantastic, their combination of guitar playing running the range from sparkling post-Byrds chime to sharp power. If the group doesn't fully explode here as much as later albums would demonstrate, especially on Heyday, that perhaps can be laid at producer Bob Clearmountain's feet. Consider the slow but steady build up of "When You Were Mine," guitar lines and notes setting the scene before fully kicking into the main riff and the clever but not forced production on the vocals on some of the middle verses. Add on the fantastic solo about four minutes in, and this is great rock music, period, deeply impressive coming on a sophomore album. Highlights are plentiful throughout Blurred, but the best numbers are perhaps the opening "Almost With You," a note-perfect combination of hooks and downbeat but not morose atmosphere, and the lengthy, powerful "You Took." Willson-Piper's lead vocal number "Field of Mars" and the brief, concluding "Don't Look Back" are further songs of note. ~ Ned Raggett

Church Blurred Crusade Songs Blurred Crusade Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) Really the beast It's true. The BEST record ever. Perfect Music, perfect mixing by Bob Clearmountain. If there's got to be one record for the island - this is it. The ESSENCE of guitar-oriented music. The Church, always underestimated, made a record for eternity. Almost With You..... Goosebumps Submitted by Arne (Kristiansand in Norway) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
one of the greatest albums of all time The tracks on this album are timeless classics. Great guitars ,drums and steves mystical lyrics. The combination of Peter's and Marty's guitars still sends chills down my spine. I guess you could define the music as melodic but intense . Some critics at the time said that it sounds like the Bryds. The Bryds were never this good. Stand out tracks - 'when you were mine' and 'you took'. To think that this album came out in 1982 but it still sounds new and refreshing in 2001. My all time favourite album. Submitted by a reviewer (Melbourne - Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

$8.45 The Church, one of Australia's finest rock bands, offers up an excellent 12-song set that features "Tristesse," "As You Will," and "Disenchanted."
Whether it was the assistance of Peter Walsh on production, a decision to bear down and see what could be done, or some further combination of that and other factors, the Church came up with its best release since The Blurred Crusade with the powerful Heyday. Not changing anything in the basic Church sound but presenting both a brilliant slew of songs and some fantastic performances, the quartet created a flat-out fantastic record. The ...

| | Jonezetta Popularity CD (2006)
Blurred Crusade music CDs
$12.59 Somewhere back in the mists of time, a hunter-gatherer hummed a melody and within moments, his/her companions began imitating and adapting the tune, rhythm, and style, refining and altering them in new directions. And so music has evolved ever since, as generation after generation built on their predecessor's work, encompassing shifts both subtle and dramatic. Thus everything now is new and old simultaneously, and never more so than in our contemporary climes, as bands revisit the past and resurrect it in fabulous new shades of sound. Jonezetta may hail from the South, and although they rock, they certainly are not Southern rockers. Instead they're beholden to the big rock sound of the '80s, post-punk/new wave, and the newer wave of pillagers of the past like Franz Ferdinand. Jonezetta's first single "Get Ready (Hot Machete)" is a particularly clever combination of seemingly incompatible elements and genres. There's a touch of disco to the beats, an almost goth edge to the middle break, a new romantic shimmer around the bubbly intro and outro, all wrapped around a powerful bassline and striking guitar leads that swagger rock style, but burn in punk rock fashion. By the time this song's over, everybody's gonna be ready for the party this number celebrates. Coming from a new generation, Jonezetta find nothing odd in taking rock into disco, and Popularity is dedicated to doing precisely that. Be it in anthemic fist-in-the-air fashion on the otherwise new romantic-styled "Backstabber," or in the kick-ass style of the title track, which fabulously flip-flops between incendiary rocker and groovy new waver; dance beats power this set.
The band can pull off ...
