THE LONG PLAY is the 1985 debut of dance-pop singer Sandra, who would later become more well known as the murmuring vocalist on hit singles by Enigma, an ambient-pop duo led by husband Michael Cretu, who also produced this album.
Import-only pressing of this 1985 release from the fetching Europop vocalist best known for her work with her husband's band Enigma. Eight tracks including 'In The Heat Of The Night' and '(I'll Never Be) Maria Magdalena'.. EMI. Long Play Music Review Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) The best album of Sandra A great of classic eighties pop, Sandra has a very "special" voice and a very special way to sing her music. I specially enjoy Maria Magdalena, or Heartbeat. Submitted by a reviewer (Lima, Peru) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 4 of 4 found this helpful.
Sandra is AWESOME Sandra is the best! She has such a great voice and her music is just great! I bought her first album (The Long Play) when I was a 13 year old kid.Now I'm 35 and still crazy about her music. She's also very beautiful and classy!! Always dresses well. one of her best albums I personally think this is one of her best albums. I enjoy the "new wave" vibe throughout the album. Besides Sandra's sweet voice, many of the songs have great lyrics, so this is a must for Sandra's fans and alike. And for the music editors information, Sandra's popularity did not come from Enigma or Michael Cretu. She was very popular in the mid/late 80's because of her own work, although she later married Michael Cretu and participated in some of the "Engima" projects doing background vocals. Before this solo debut in 1985, she was a member of the girl-band "Arabesque" and which releases several albums mostly in Japan. Submitted by michael.merino2007 (VA, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Bring back my childhood years I heard Sandra when I was around 9 yrs old and I loved the Music. I am from India and one of my Uncle working in Middle East Asia had brought this album. He only brought a handful of albums and this was one of it, so u can imagine its popularity. Whenever I hear this, it brings back my childhood memories. Never got enough... ...or tired of her music. Here in Europe, especially, she was (and still is) one of the "icons", not only of 80's- pop,but rather talented and well-produced singer of all times. "Long Play" was the first album which I ever bought (1986 I was 13:)) and then I bought it again on cassete, and then,20 years later, have it on CD..Among other her hits, in terms of vision and style, she sounds like all it was recoreded today.Words cannot describe it,really...you just need to hear it. Long Play songs
$9.69 Nights Are Forever was the breakthrough album for Dan Seals and John Coley after some sincere and excellent work on A&M Records in the early '70s. Two of their biggest hits were the title track and the beautiful "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight." Those songs are a good indication of the fine performances this 1976 album contains. The duo's originals like "Long Way Home" and the Dan Fogelberg-ish "Westward Wind" could have been hits as well displaying superb musicianship and delicate vocals. This album is very much a companion piece to the Parker McGee album recorded around the same time, on the same label, with pretty much the same musicians. Producer Kyle Lehning has the sounds so similar a survey panel would probably not be ...
| | England Dan Dr. Heckle & Mr. Jive CD (1978) Reissued
Long Play album
$9.55 The sincerity of their days on A&M Records has turned to total formula by the time Dr. Heckyl & Mr. Jive came around -- and Robert Louis Stevenson expert, author Ray McNally, makes it clear in his book on Mr. Hyde that the true pronunciation is Dr. Jeekill (as in, "I Kill and Hide"). It is quite a paradox that this justified attack on the Hollywood system uses the mispronunciation of this famous title which Hollywood forced upon the world. Were these singers that clever to have slipped this in as a sly parody? Probably not -- because the sentiment in the poem here is right on, but the execution of the title track, is as musically contrived as it sounds. This album shows the worst, and the best, of this productive duo. "Running After You" falls into the former category, but their hit rendition of the Todd Rundgren tune "Love Is the ...
| | England Dan Some Things Don't Come Easy CD (1978)
Long Play CD music
$10.65 If Dowdy Ferry Road was their bleak moment in song, Some Things Don't Come Easy is the calm before the storm, a port prior to the schizophrenia that was Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive. Wandering songs like "Who's Lonely Now" are indicative of this album, and it is only one of two titles the singers pen together. They look alike on the smiling, happy airbrushed front cover, but you can almost see sadness in their eyes on the photos on the back. It must have been an intense period as they came up with yet another Top Ten hit, their fifth of six. "We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again" was written by Jeffrie Comanor and is far and away the best song on the album. This duo knew how to interpret; they were fantastic at it. The hit single is defined, the production is compact, and the loose ends ...

| | Dave Dee/Dozy/Beaky/Mitch & Tich CD (1966) Bonus Tracks
Long Play album
$16.65 Although the success of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich was nominal in the States, they fared significantly better throughout Europe. Dave "Dee" Harman (guitar/vocals), Trevor "Dozy" Davies (bass), John "Beaky" Diamond (rhythm guitar), Michael "Mick" Wilson (drums), and Ian "Tich" Amey (lead guitar) were an instrumentally self-contained unit with a penchant for aggressive pop leanings that remained buoyant and catchy, while simultaneously flirting with the subterranean freakbeat and mod rock scenes as well. That distinction can be heard between the pulsating rhythms of "Hold Tight," "No More Love," and "We Got a Good Thing Goin'" -- recalling the unmistakable sound of the Dave Clark Five. "Frustration," "Hard to Love You," and "All I Want to Do" are among the standout rockers with a notably edgier sting and sonic punch. This is stylistically augmented by the equally moving balladry of "Here's a Heart" and the emotive midtempo "Something I Gotta Tell You." [Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich's recorded legacy is only partially represented by their LP, however. In many (if not most) cases, 7" single releases would boast considerably different mixes or tunes that were otherwise not available on the 12" platters. Enthusiasts of the band should take note of the 2003 reissue of First Album, as it boasts no less than a dozen bonus tracks consisting mostly of 45-only sides and alternate edits.] ~ Lindsay Planer
