Sid Vicious left a very small recorded legacy, and it's easy to see why. These are live recordings with terrible sound quality and equally bad vocals from Vicious, who is prone to stealing Johnny Rotten's vocal mannerisms. The only track he had a hand in is the Pistols' collaboration "Belsen"; the other nine songs are covers (including a hilarious rearrangement of "My Way"). This album shows Sid Vicious as a follower, not an innovator. He had no originality or intelligence and displayed an astounding lack of talent, augmented by total contempt for his audience. But given punk's ideology, it may make perfect sense that he should become its most celebrated icon. If you follow the logic, Sid Sings is absolutely essential; if not, don't bother. ~ Steve Huey
1989 collection on Virgin Records featuring his soloversion of the Sex Pistols' 'Belsen' and covers of 10 othercuts, including Iggy & the Stooges' 'Search And Destroy' &'I Wanna Be Your Dog', plus Boyce & Hart's 'Stepping Stone'and more! | | Cream Disraeli Gears CD (1967) Remastered
Sid Sings music CDs
$6.35 The remastered DISRAELI GEARS is also available in its entirety on the 4 disc set THOSE WERE THE DAYS.
Recorded in the U.S. in a three-and-a-half day flurry of inspired activity before the band members' visas expired, DISRAELI GEARS continued to present the legendary, unprecedented rock power-trio acrobatics pioneered by Cream on their debut FRESH CREAM. The acronymic "SWLABR (She Walked Like a Bearded Rainbow)" for instance, featured some of the band's most fiery instrumental interplay. The album, with its eye-catching ...
| | Vanilla Fudge Renaissance CD (1968)
Sid Sings songs
$11.69 What made Vanilla Fudge so intriguing was how they and producer Shadow Morton mutated hit songs by stretching the tempo to slow motion so exquisite that even an overexposed song by the Supremes sounded new on the radio. The formula worked fine on covers, but despite their collective talent, the material they composed on Renaissance feels more like psychedelic meeting progressive and has less of that commercial magic. Renaissance is a concept album, produced and directed by Shadow Morton, ...

| | Stooges Fun House CD (1970)
Sid Sings CD music
$9.95 FUN HOUSE sounds like an extended, guttural war cry from deep within the psyche. While the Stooges' excellent debut, produced by John Cale, had a clean, punchy sound that introduced the band's ragged, stripped-down rock, it did not capture the chaotic fury of the band's live spirit. The Stooges hired Don Gallucci (formerly of the Kingsmen) to produce FUN HOUSE, and he gave the album a murky, swampy ambience that lacks clarity and precision, yet compensates for that lack tenfold with immediacy and a staggering sonic punch in the gut. And where THE STOOGES ...
| | Peter Murphy Dust CD (2002)
Sid Sings music CDs
$12.95 Peter Murphy's sixth solo album (counting 2001's live ALIVE JUST FOR LOVE) finds the singer-songwriter aging gracefully into the role of the elder statesman of goth. As Murphy gets mellower, his vocal debt to Bryan Ferry becomes more pronounced, and the songs on DUST are nearly as mellow as Ferry's suave, post-Roxy Music work. An increased interest in world music informs much of the album, with Middle Eastern and North African melodies and instruments coloring the songs, which on the ...
| | Small Faces Ogden's Nut Gone Flake CDs (1968) England; Deluxe Edition
Sid Sings songs
$33.75 The Small Faces present their four disc U.K. import reissue release OGDEN'S NUT GONE FLAKE.
Having begun their career as the archetypal Mod band, the Small Faces latterly embraced traces of flower-power's whimsy. Astute enough not to sacrifice their identity, the quartet retained a distinctive perspective, as evinced by a string of superb pop singles, including "Here Comes The Nice" and "Itchycoo Park." A sense of pop melody and adventurism culminated on this album which encompassed tongue-in-cheek fun ("Lazy Sunday") and passionate love songs ("Afterglow"). Steve Marriott's voice remains completely self-assured and the group's characteristic organ-based swell is often enhanced by P.P. Arnold's emotional backing vocals. Eccentric comedian Stanley Unwin narrates the concept suite "Happiness Stan," but the music is strong enough to withstand the novelty tag. OGDENS' NUT GONE FLAKE was the Small Faces' swan-song, at least until an ill-starred reunion, but it proved a fitting end to a golden era.

| | Garbage Bleed Like Me CD (2005) Enhanced CD
Sid Sings album
$12.59 Garbage's mantra for BLEED LIKE ME could be "that which doesn't kill you only makes you stronger," given the emotional and creative upheaval this unit went through in the four years that elapsed between this disc and 2001's BEAUTIFUL GARBAGE. Following personal conflicts and health woes for both Butch Vig and Shirley Manson, the quartet stripped down its sound and amped up the guitars to create an angst-laced album reminiscent of the Breeders ...

| | Penny Nichols Penny's Arcade CD (1968)
Sid Sings songs
$14.79 Penny Nichols's debut album is not a major singer/songwriter statement, but neither is it as mundane as many such also-ran LPs of the late '60s. She has a nice, pleasant strong voice, if not one of great distinction. There might be more folk-rock than anything else to her songs, but there are also a good amount of pop smarts to her melodies. There's also a fair amount of pop acumen to the modest but effective production, including contributions from guitar aces Vincent Bell, Bruce Langhorne, and Al Gorgoni. The tunes have a little bit of an airy hippie wistfulness, very slightly reminiscent of some of Joni Mitchell's early fantasy-fueled lyrics, though without Mitchell's gravity. There's a tinge of country and pop vaudeville in "Games," with some nicely baroque arrangements (by Artie Butler) to amplify the period sense of wonder and expansion. "Look Around Rock" gets into some almost entrancing jazz-folk-psychedelic wooziness, and is the highlight of the record, though the slightly eerie melancholy of the closer "Farina" is also worth ...
