This Australian import CD features 20 of the King's greatest love songs. From "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" to "Love Me Tender" to "Love Letters," Elvis's ballads are among some of his all-time best tracks.
Time-Life's The Elvis Presley Collection is a series of two-CD compilations grouping Presley recordings by various criteria. Love Songs has an obvious unifying theme, and among its 31 selections are most of Presley's best-known romantic ballads, including the Top Ten hits "I Want You, I Need You, I Love You," "Love Me Tender," "Love Me," "Don't," "It's Now or Never," "Are You Lonesome Tonight?," "Surrender," "Can't Help Falling in Love," and "The Wonder of You," as well as such Presley standards as "Always on My Mind" and the Kris Kristofferson compositions "Help Me Make It Through the Night" and "For the Good Times." One might quibble that "Suspicion" and "Suspicious Minds" don't quite fit the theme, both for their quick tempos and subject matter. And the compilers have treated the two discs separately, with each one running in rough chronological order from the 1950s to the '70s, which tends to throw early and late Presley together, sometimes jarringly. Beyond such minor criticisms, however, there are so many Presley collections on the market that the necessity of this series is open to question, even though it has been intelligently programmed. Partly to answer that question, each album in the series contains one previously unreleased track. In this case, it's a circa-1966 home-recorded, off-hand performance of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "If I Loved You," apparently a favorite of Presley's, since he was also taped singing it informally in 1960, though he never performed the song in the studio or in concert. ~ William Ruhlmann
Although he is best known as the King Of Rock 'N' Roll, Elvis tackled different styles of music on his recordings, from Country to Gospel to Soul and beyond. Some of his finest vocal performances, though, can be heard on the ballads and love songs he recorded throughout the years. This collection contains some of those classic romantic recordings and shows why he remains one of the most beloved singers in Rock 'N' Roll history. 20 tracks including 'Love Me Tender', 'Are You Lonesome Tonight', 'It's Now or Never', 'Can't Help Falling in Love', 'Suspicious Minds', 'Good Luck Charm', 'Unchained Melody', 'The Wonder of You', 'Surrender', 'Such a Night', 'Kentucky Rain' and 'Separate Ways'. Love Songs album
$10.25 Stoney LaRue is a singer/songwriter based in Stillwater, OK, one of the leaders of a local outlaw country scene collectively dubbed Red Dirt, after the dominant topographical feature of central Oklahoma. LaRue's debut, The Red Dirt Album, is both a personal coming-out of a fairly gifted singer/songwriter and the mission statement of an entire collective of bands, including Cross Canadian Ragweed (led by singer/songwriter Cody Canada) and Jason Boland & the Stragglers, key figures from which appear here in vocal, instrumental, and songwriting roles. It's as if the Elephant 6 bands had been heavily influenced by Jerry Jeff Walker's Viva Terlingua and the rest of the Luckenbach, TX, ...

| | Lee Ann Womack Call Me Crazy CD (2008) Digipak
Love Songs music CDs
$9.49 After flirting with the pop mainstream with hit singles like "I Hope You Dance," Lee Ann Womack came decidedly back to country with 2005's THERE'S MORE WHERE THAT CAME FROM, an unapologetic stylistic throwback to the days when Patsy Cline and Kitty Wells ruled the country charts. While CALL ME CRAZY is nearly as traditionalist in its sound, and every bit as strong as a set of songs, it sounds perhaps a little more contemporary--more Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton than Patsy and Kitty--and includes highlights like first single "Last Call" and a pair of duets with Keith Urban and George Strait. CALL ME CRAZY was released as a vinyl LP as well as a digital download and a standard CD: the once retro but now once again hot format is a perfect ...
| | Sugarland Enjoy The Ride CD (2006)
Love Songs songs
$10.45 With the departure of founding member Kristen Hall, Sugarland slimmed down to a duo. Losing one-third of the formula that made their debut a country/pop crossover smash might seem a daunting proposition, but ENJOY THE RIDE finds remaining members Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush not only surviving but thriving. Nettles's brassy belting has more sass and sex appeal than ever, and the in-your-face attitude on many of the pair's songs is even more brash and boundary-pushing than ...
| | Trisha Yearwood Heaven, Heartache And The Power Of Love CD (2007)
Love Songs album
$14.89 On her first album for an independent label after leaving MCA Nashville in 2005, Trisha Yearwood in no way downsized her musical ambition. Instead, the grandiose HEAVEN, HEARTACHE AND THE POWER OF LOVE is perhaps Yearwood's finest album, and certainly her most self-assured work since her early neo-traditionalist country days. Indeed, this album harkens back to that era of Yearwood's career: it was produced by her original musical partner, Garth Fundis, whose live-sounding production recalls the more rustic sound of the new traditionalists--featuring live drums instead of machines, piano and organ instead of synths, and acoustic guitars instead of rock-oriented electrics. Ironically, it was ...

Love Songs album
$14.49 Having already achieved varying degrees of commercial and critical success with Roy Ayers' Ubiquity project and Robert Flack, Harry Whitaker went into the studio to record Black Renaissance: Body, Mind & Spirit, a tone poem reflecting on the state of African American music in the 1970s. Debunking the myth of the record's rarity aside (scarcely available for decades until its 2002 reissue by Ubiquity), this album is a map of the African American musical canvas -- a symphony of melding influences as far reaching as Sun Ra's call and ...
