Euforia contains semi-acoustic live versions of some of Fito Paez's best songs as well as a couple of new compositions. The more organic sound works very well and contrasts with the often heavily produced original versions of the songs. The beautiful "Mariposa Tecknicolor," for example, is significantly slower, emphasizing the melancholic qualities of the song. A perfect pop song to begin with, "Mariposa Tecknicolor" gains additional dimensions here. The excellent versions of "11 y 6" and "Ciudad de Pobres Corazones" are other highlights. Among the new songs, "Cadaver Esquisito," with its somewhat surrealistic lyrics, is the most impressive. Several of the tracks really benefit from the tasteful new soundscape and in some cases even outshine the original studio versions. This makes Euforia one of Paez's stronger album releases. ~ Philip Jandovsky

Euforia album
$9.05 VUELVE won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance.
So he did time in Menudo, so what? He was young and impressionable. You don't hold New Edition against Bobby Brown, do you? The point is that Ricky Martin is a fully-realized, mature artist who has a lot to offer to the world of Latin music. VUELVE shows the range of Martin's talents, from the propulsive Latin rhythms of "Por Arriba, Por Abajo" and "Lola, Lola" to the Anglicized power balladry of the title track, with plenty of stops in between. Somehow, it all ...

Recorded live in Mexico, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina & the USA in 1996 & 1997.
With this release Soda Stereo reinvented themselves. Lyrically and musically the band acquired an elegant fury never shown before. Although the album supposed a big change to the fan's expectations, it didn't disturb the band's popularity. The songs are among the band's strongest and most popular. Included is the instant hit "Música Ligera," the one chosen by the band to play as their last song in their last show in 1997. "Entre Caníbales" and "Un Millón de Años Luz" reveal almost sexually explicit but delicate lyrics, while the exquisite "Té para Tres" was inspired by Cerati's father's agony. The strong concept and consistency of the album is due in part to ...

| | Fito Paez El Amor Despues Del Amor CD (1993)
Euforia album
$9.79 This album is the main reason why Fito Paez became one of Argentina's most acclaimed singer/songwriters of the '90s. It's one of his artistic peaks (comparable to his darkest album, Ciudad de Pobres Corazones) and it also stands as the best-selling Argentinean album from that decade (with global sales of close to a million copies). As the album title suggests (it means "Love After Love"), this is about love rediscovered. After the breakup with singer Fabiana Cantilo, then chronicled in Tercer Mundo's "Fue Amor," Paez started a relationship with actress Cecilia Roth. The whole album is dedicated and inspired by her. It includes such hits as the title track "El Amor Despues del Amor," as well as "Un Vestido y un Amor," "A Rodar Mi Vida," and "Tumbas de la Gloria." Musically, the album combines rock, pop, Argentinean folklore, and ballads. Although it shows extreme care in the arrangements, it's less pretentious and over-produced ...
| | Fito Paez Circo Beat (Beat Circus) CD (1995)
Euforia CD music
$9.79 Circo Beat is a natural follow-up to the critically acclaimed El Amor Despues del Amor, from 1993. The sound and tone of the two albums are very similar, trending far more towards pop than rock, though Circo Beat is simpler, lighter and more heavily produced. Typically lush, free flowing pop songs are "Lo Que Viento Nunca Se Llevo" and "Mariposa ...

| | Bloodrock 2 CD (1970)
Euforia album
$11.65 This 1970s outing by the U.S. hard-rock group Bloodrock includes "Lucky in the Morning," "Fallin'," and "Fancy Space Odyssey."
On their second outing, Bloodrock became a hitmaking proposition thanks to the success of "D.O.A." Despite the morbid nature of this hit, the album is not another spooky epic like their debut. This time out, the group keeps the music fairly heavy but goes for a lighter feel in the songwriting. For instance, "Cheater" is not the revenge tale one might expect: instead, it's the surprisingly earnest promise of a lover vowing to remain faithful. Unfortunately, "peace and love" themes do not suit Bloodrock as well as the darker themes that characterized their first release. The attempts at creating heartfelt love songs feel embarrassingly sappy ("Sable and Pearl" is the biggest culprit in this department), and these types of lyrics do not mix comfortably with the group's hard-rocking sound. Bloodrock also take a stab at social commentary on songs like "Children's Heritage" and "Dier Not a Lover," but their message lyrics come off as muddled and amateurish. The best moments on Bloodrock 2 are those that go for the spooky feel of the first album: "Fallin'" uses crashing drums and descending riffs to bring the lyric's mood of depression to life, and "D.O.A.," which graphically recounts the last thoughts of a plane-crash victim, became a surprise pop chart hit thanks to its powerfully spooky arrangement. Ultimately, Bloodrock 2 offers enough solid tracks to appeal to the group's devotees, but casual fans who just want to hear "D.O.A." would be better off hunting that song down on a compilation. ~ Donald Guarisco
