Mexican superstar Luis Miguel followed up his immensely successful ballads collection, Romance, with the aptly titled Grammy-winner Segundo Romance (meaning second romance). The album, of course, is a first-rate collection of timeless Latin American standards. Miguel, one of Latin America's reigning superstars, has a wonderful, passionate voice, and the songs were exquisitely produced by the artist himself. The album opens with a romantic accordion leading into the first song, "El Dia Que Me Quieras," setting the tone for the rest of the set. Other highlights include his lush version of "La Media Vuelta," one of the album's biggest hits, complete with horns, strings, and Spanish guitars. Another highlight, "Solamente Una Vez," is complimented with a harmonica. All of this simply illustrates the lush production which went into this surefire hit, which further established Miguel as a first-rate balladeer, and further entrenched his immense international popularity, not only with the youth market, but with an older, more sophisticated market as well. ~ Jose F. WOW I grew up listening to Trio los Panchos & Julio Iglesias. But when I first heard his version of "sin Ti", I was so captivated I had to buy the album. I was really lucky because it was considered "hard to find" & I chanced upon it in a small record shop....I still listen to the album until now & particularly enjoy it when I am driving. Audio Mixers: Edwin Heath; Frans Hagenaars; Berend Dubbe. Recording information: Sound Enterprise Studio, Weesp, The Netherlands. Though Dutch indie rockers Bettie Serveert wouldn't make a big splash on the alt-rock scene until their second album, the band's debut, PALOMINE established the template for their sound. As with much of their other work, PALOMINE is a study in contrasts. It alternates between brashly rocking and quietly reflective, sometimes within the same song. One of the most immediately striking things about the album is just how American ...

Segundo Romance
$5.95 Drawing songs, in part, from Elvis Presley's late-1960s movies, this 10-track budget-priced collection, originally released in '70, finds the King in full-on crooner mode. The opening title song is a pure easy-listening number, replete with lounge-tailored orchestral accompaniment, while "Clean Up Your Own Backyard" settles into a light funk groove. The concise set also includes the horn-laden "A Little Less Conversation" and the energetic "Rubberneckin'," both of which were subjected to high-profile remix treatments in the early 2000s. Although this disc ...
