Best Of Country Comfort album
$20.35 At the time of his death in 1980, Jacob Miller was establishing a musical foundation of controversial, socially conscious lyrics that documented the struggles of Jamaica's underclass. Along with Bob Marley, who ironically died a year later, he represented the powerful spirit of oppressed people who refuse to accept injustice. Miller's clear, sweet, echoing voice highlighted tunes that painted familiar scenes of life in Jamaica's ghettos. His songs, such as "Tenement Yard" and "All Night Till Day Light," surpassed even Marley's in terms of Jamaican popularity. As lead singer of Inner Circle, he expanded his repertoire to include ...
| | Morgan Heritage Full Circle CD (2005)
Best Of Country Comfort CD music
$12.59 Morgan Heritage have become standard bearers for roots reggae. Listening to the opening track here, it becomes apparent that they've taken ideas on board equally from Bob Marley and Third World. They're not afraid of making their sound commercial and accessible, although with a very pleasing thickness that's perfectly commendable. Indeed, for much of the first eight cuts here, they play within that template, with conscious lyrics about righteousness in both life and relationships, before they take an unexpected detour into hip-hop for a while -- and that's hip-hop, not dancehall. It's well done, but still the type of thing that will have you wondering if someone's been messing with your CD player. However, by "Propaganda" they're back where they should be, back with the roots and skanking along ...
| | Raw Sun Rated R CD (2005)
Best Of Country Comfort music CDs
$13.29 Vocalist/rapper Rawsun and his younger brother Don Juan Cartel grew up around reggae, but this album has little to do with that form of music. Their late father, Jahsun, fronted the American reggae band Strictly Roots. When their father died, the brothers took up the mantle, with Rawsun (aka Rason Jahmal) taking over vocals where his father left off. The group enjoyed great success with their traditional reggae/dancehall sound in Hawaii, ...

| | Lady Gaga Fame Monster CDs (2009) Deluxe Edition
Best Of Country Comfort album
$16.24 Initially planned solely as a standard double-disc reissue in the wake of the blockbuster success of The Fame, Lady Gaga decided to release the new material as a separate EP called The Fame Monster in addition to the standard two-CD set, where it's tacked onto a now standardized version of her debut. It's a nice move for fans, plus it helps emphasize the new material, which does act as a bridge from the debut to a forthcoming full-length. Everything on The Fame Monster bears a galvanized Eurotrash finish, as evident on the heavy steel synths of "Bad Romance" and the updated ABBA revision "Alejandro," as it is on the rock & roll ballad "Speechless" -- its big guitars lifted from Noel Gallagher -- and the wonderful, perverse march "Teeth." Even the stuttering splices on "Telephone," a duet with Beyoncé, leans to the other side of the Atlantic, which just emphasizes the otherness that's become Gaga's calling card. And even as she's becoming omnipresent, with her songs mingling with those who co-opt her on the radio, she still is slightly skewed, ...
