Little Brother album for sale Product Description
This second album by Austin-based Beaver Nelson is a subtle charmer. Its scruffily rocking grooves are completely honest, with the opening two tracks, "Fallen Down" and "Your Little Girl," playing the congenial host, wooing you in through the door. Once Nelson's gotten your attention with the earthy honky-tonk bred riffs, he dims the lights and quiets down for the melancholy beauty of "Scattered." On that song in particular--as well as on others--he pushes his voice into places just out of his reach. ...See Full Description

 | Big Fish in Little Pond Beaver Nelson's CD "Little Brother" is an ear cather. The music is catchy, the lyrics interesting. Let's start with the music. The style is roots-rockish, though he takes more chances than most in this genre. The horns in "Playing Around" easily make it the best song on the disc. "Your Little is Girl" is simple but catchy. Now for the lyrics. I've read to the effect thatt they are impressionistic, which I disagree with. Impressionistic, in a bad musician, can really mean unfocused. Impressionistic for a good musician (which Beaver is) indicates shots of random images that, though you can't put a finger on it, seem interconnected. Beaver is much more straight up than this. (Little Brother Blues, the title track, could be an exception.) Trying to pinpoint a musical and lyrical style is a wasted effort. Who cares as long as the music is good? And believe me Beaver Nelson's music is good. By a reviewer (Minneapolis, MN, USA) |
