Closed Captioned; Additional Footage; Soundtrack English; English Subtitles; Behind The Scenes This dark, moody, erotically-charged film examines the theme of sexual fetishes, and their impact on one's life.
Philandering husband James Ballard has been seriously injured in a car crash. But after bonding with Helen, the woman in the other vehicle, the two begin a sexual relationship.
Their lives are further altered after meeting kinky hospital worker Vaughn. Vaughn runs a secret club that re-enacts (to the minutest details) famous car crashes, such as the one that killed James Dean. Lovemaking between the club members follows the re-creation.
The combination of kinky sex and danger creates an unusual fetish for Vaughn, Helen, James, his wife, and others in their circle. And soon, the fetish leads to obsession for many involved...
After surviving a head-on car collision that triggers a raw sexual awakening, a bored, nihilistic television producer assembles a following of other bored, death-obsessed nihilists who seek kinky thrills by investigating the ostensible erotic basis of the twisted metal, skid marks, and adrenaline rushes of auto smash-ups. Based on the eponymous novel by J. G. Ballard. The film's controversial thesis won accolades from some (a Cannes Special Prize) and censure from others. Available in rated and unrated versions. The film won an award for "originality, audacity and daring" at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
Co-produced by Alliance Communications and the Movie Network.
Color by DeLuxe.

Crash review
$14.45 Horror author Anne Rice penned the screenplay for this full-blooded adaptation of her novel, which chronicles the life of 18th-century nobleman Louis (Brad Pitt) after he is bitten by powerful, charismatic vampire Lestat (Tom Cruise). Though enthralled with the undead lifestyle at first, Louis is unable to warm up to killing humans and grows despondent. To comfort Louis, Lestat creates another vampire (Kirsten Dunst in a star-making peformance), a young girl who from then on cannot age. Antonio Banderas appears as Armand, a 400-year-old vampire, and Christian Slater plays the radio producer who interviews the remorseful Louis.
Director Neil Jordan captures the lush decadence and erotic fervor of the novel, infusing the film with rich, dusky tones. The big budget is well used to bring each period and place to sharply detailed life, and there is no skimping on the blood or immortal angst. Thandie Newton has a small role as Louis's ...

$10.29 With MALÉNA, Italian director Giuseppe Tornatore spins a romantic coming-of-age yarn about love, loss, and courage. Set in 1941 in a tiny village in Sicily, the film focuses on a group of 13-year-old boys who fall madly in love with Maléna (Monica Bellucci), the wife of a local soldier. One of the boys, Renato Amoroso (Giuseppe Sulfaro), a dreamer who yearns for freedom from his war-bound village, revels in the exquisite beauty of the enchanting newcomer. He becomes her shadow, following her through the cobble stone streets and spying on her most intimate moments, overwhelmed with romantic longing for the first time. Maléna has a magical spellbinding effect on the male villagers; her presence inspires fantasy and escape from their daily lives. But the women of the village, hardened by war, are quick to judge the nubile outsider. Maléna becomes the focus of desire and seething jealousy in the town and she is eventually forced to face the female villagers in a bittersweet climax. Reminiscent of Federico Fellini's nostalgic masterpiece AMARCORD, native ...

$16.89 From his current post in Antarctica, British glaciologist Matt (Kieran O'Brien), recalls how he met Lisa (Margo Stilley), a 21-year-old American student. They were at a rock concert at London's Brixton Academy, and he took her back to his apartment for sex. This began a brief relationship, which is revealed as Matt remembers and comments on its milestones--mainly the other concerts they attended and their significant sexual experiences--before their initial sexual attraction waned and they were forced to part.
The titular nine songs are comprised of concert performances by 1) Primal Scream, 2) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, 3) Elbow, 4) Michael Nyman, 5) Super Furry Animals, 6) The Dandy Warhols, 7) Von Bondies, 8) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club again, and 9) Franz Ferdinand. Shot on often-blurry, handheld digital video from an audience perspective, these scenes have a you-are-there effect. The sequences involving Matt and Lisa are intimate and realistic (be warned--the sex in the film is real and graphic), conveying everything one needs to know about their relationship with only the most rudimentary dialogue. With this brief, dreamlike work, director Michael Winterbottom (24 HOUR PARTY PEOPLE) has theoretically created the ultimate music movie--one that is purely sex, drugs, and rock & roll. The result is akin to the feeling of listening to a great mix tape made by a former lover.
