$8.29 With THE MATRIX, the Wachowskis have established themselves as innovative filmmakers who push the boundaries of live-action films. Like the groundbreaking STAR WARS, THE MATRIX (also the first film of a trilogy) showcases a unique visual style, one the Wachowskis achieved through an array of techniques and digital effects, some never before seen in mainstream Hollywood films. Although computer morphing technology had been used before in films such as THE ABYSS and TERMINATOR 2, the Wachowskis were the first to use "bullet time," a time-bending digital effect that utilizes both computer-generated imagery and still photography.
The film itself is a complex story that aspires to mythology, focusing on a computer hacker named Neo (Keanu Reeves) who searches for the truth behind the mysterious force known as the Matrix. He finds his answer with a group of strangers led by the charismatic Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). What they encounter in confronting that truth makes for a lightning-paced, eye-popping thrill ride of a movie. Packed with stunning fight scenes (choreographed by accomplished Hong Kong director Yuen Wo-Ping), astonishing visual effects, quotable lines, and a terrific supporting cast (led by Carrie-Anne Moss, in her first major Hollywood film), THE MATRIX is a bold triumph that raises the bar for all science fiction films.
This 136 minute feature film is a special edition DVD star ring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburn, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Blade video
$8.85 In Guillermo del Toro's BLADE II, Wesley Snipes reprises his role as the part-human, part-vampire superhero based on the comic book character. Following a trail of blood that leads to Prague, Blade (aka the Daywalker) slays a legion of bloodsuckers in the search for his abducted mentor, Whistler (Kris Kristofferson). Soon Blade reluctantly joins forces with a band of skilled vampiric warriors called the Bloodpack to hunt down an even deadlier enemy--the monstrous Reapers, who prey on vampires and humans alike, infecting them with an incurable virus. In addition to battling these relentless new foes, Blade must deal with situations brought about by the Bloodpack's tenuous alliance --in particular, his attraction to the lovely Nyssa (Leonor Varela) and his rivalry with the brutish Reinhardt (Ron Perlman).
A hyperkinetic motion picture, BLADE II literally explodes onto the screen with hi-tech weaponry and stunning special effects. The fight sequences, choreographed by Hong Kong superstar Donnie Yen (who plays Bloodpack member Snowman), are remarkably hard-hitting and elaborate. The film also improves on the entertaining original by adding a darker, more visceral tone that's fleshed out by del Toro's stylish and brilliantly grotesque visuals. Both frightening and thrilling, BLADE II is sure to astound both horror and action fans alike.

| | Waiting List DVD (2000) Widescreen; Spanish
Blade movie DVD
$15.59 Mixing sharp social commentary and comedy, director Juan Carlos Tabio's (STRAWBERRY & CHOCOLATE) WAITING LIST brings together a cast of characters who possess drastically different personalities, but who find much in common while they wait (and wait, and wait) for a bus to Santiago. As each person enters the terminal, he or she must sign a waiting list for the next bus. Reflecting the unwieldy nature of Cuban socialism, the line grows longer, and the only buses that seem to stop are full or broken down.
In contrast, Tabio also effectively portrays the hardy nature of his subjects and by extension, the hopes for a smoother governmental system. As the passengers get to know each other better, romance develops, friendships form, and everyone gets scammed by a man (Jorge Perugorria) who pretends to be blind for a chance at the top of the list. As they suffer together, the group sets about creating a more welcoming bus stop--an undertaking that echoes Cuban governmental calls for grassroots efforts toward community improvement.

Blade film
$10.75 Diana is a young Beatles determined to meet her idol, John Lennon, when the Fab Four arrive in Madrid in 1965. With the assistance of a love struck bellboy, she sneaks into John's room where she hides under the very bed where John seduces a model. Years later, Diana (now played by Penelope Cruz in one of her earliest film roles) has been through many boyfriends and one doomed marriage. She has kept in contact with the bellboy and at the very same hotel where they originally met, a set of unusual circumstances brings them together where the bellboy gets a second chance to win over his lifelong love.
Pen‚lope Cruz stars in this screwball comedy about a hotel bellboy and a beautiful, but crazed Beatles fan who accidentally come together inside John Lennon's hotel room. The on-again, off-again affair of Diana and Santi stretches over the next 30 years, through marriages, children, and notable world events. Unable to let each other go in the best and worst of times, Love Can Seriously Damage Your Health is a glorious romantic lark. Also stars 5-time Goya award nominees Ana Bel‚n and Gabino Diego, and Juanjo Puigcorb‚.
