$10.29 Loosely based on the experiences and personalities of David Bowie and Iggy Pop, VELVET GOLDMINE is a wild, glitter-laced trip through the 1970s era of Glam rock. Fictional characters Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) and Curt Wild (Ewan McGregor) are personifications of Glam rock's ideals, with the mysterious and androgynous Slade balanced by the intense, raucous Wild. When Slade disappears, the era itself seems to melt away, swallowed up by the slick 1980s. But Slade's story, and the story of Glam rock, is retold when journalist Arthur Stuart (Christian Bale) is assigned to discover what really happened to Slade. Through his own memories of this time, Arthur faces his childhood fears and ...

Fists Of Bruce Lee review
$9.69 Writer/Director Sally Potter's ambitious historic romance THE MAN WHO CRIED is an epic war drama laced with moral parable and bolstered by lush sets and costumes. The story begins familiarly enough--a young Russian Jewish girl is displaced just before World War II and separated from her family--but Potter has woven around the character of Suzie (Christina Ricci) a labyrinth of color, dance, ethnic music, and culture that transcends a typical or cliched war-time drama. By the use of an eclectic, but brilliant, cast, the complex set of choices made by the characters--all outsiders on some level--help to convey the desperation and strength in each of their situations. In particular, there is Suzie, who was raised in a proper English household after fleeing her homeland. Withdrawn, silently tormented, she longs to find her father (Oleg Yankovsky) who fled to America to find a better life for their family. Poetically, Suzie finds a singing voice to express who she is, traveling to Paris where she becomes part of the Moulin Rouge set. It is here--amidst the glamour and impending doom of Paris in the 1930s--that she meets Lola (an almost unrecognizable Cate Blanchett), a fascinating, sophistocated woman who guides Suzie but loses her own identity in a relationship with a rich singer (John Turturro). Suzie also finds love in the arms of the gypsy Cesar (Johnny ...

$21.49 One of director Krzysztof Kieslowski's greatest achievements, A SHORT FILM ABOUT KILLING has become both a politically and artistically influential masterpiece. The relatively simple story about a young man, sentenced to death for his murder of a cab driver, makes an important statement about capital punishment and the fine line between victim and murderer. The technical feat undertaken to support the weight of the film's message is astounding, including the use of six hundred different green filters by cinematographer Slavomir Idziak. Kieslowski's final product provides not only a compelling ...

$10.49 Everyone's favorite underachieving and politically incorrect animated family is back with four episodes loosely linked by the theme of a party. The first, "Homer's Night Out," is from the show's premiere season in 1990, and features Homer going to a stag party and dancing with a stripper. Meddlesome Bart documents the occasion, and Homer is forced to explain his actions. Then, Homer is thrilled by his free trip to the Superbowl, but his excitement turns to dismay when he finds he can't actually watch the game in "Sunday Cruddy Sunday" (1999). This episode boasts cameos by Dolly Parton, Rupert Murdoch, Troy Aiken, and Dan Marino, as well as a hilarious ad for the Catholic Church! Britney Spears puts in an appearance in "The Mansion ...
