While the Moodies were never exactly a rocker's delight, SEVENTH SOJOURN, the seventh recording with the post-Denny Laine lineup, is perhaps their most ballad-heavy album. Ironically, the album's biggest hit, which would become one of the group's signature songs, was the uncharacteristically uptempo "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band." Elsewhere, appearances are equally deceiving; interpersonal tensions had developed in the band to the point where there wouldn't be another Moody Blues album for six years, but the album is full of slow, romantic musings, not signs of strife.
As usual, it's Justin Hayward, he of the silky voice and heart-on-a-sleeve lyricism, who excels at all this romantic balladry, his contributions being the most melodic and affecting. John Lodge's aforementioned "I'm Just a Singer" is far and away the most energetic tune, but it closes the album and doesn't disturb the contemplative mood. Ironically, though the band was coming apart, they were also reaching new heights. Keyboardist Mike Pinder had traded in his Mellotron for its more sophisticated cousin, the Chamberlain, which provided an improved overall sound on SEVENTH SOJOURN.
In DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1, includes 8 tracks such as "Lost in a New World," "For My Lady," "You and Me" and more!

Rolling Stone (1/18/73, p.50) - "...their most satisfying music is also their most tactile, with a variety of rich and flowing textures....SEVENTH SOJOURN is music to bask in and feel with your pores as well as your ears..." Seventh Sojourn Music Review Average Rating: (3.5 out of 5 stars) A Must I have quite a few surround sound cd's and this one, although it's not quite my favorite album,is probably the best sounding by far. If your a fan of the Moodies and have a decent system, this is well worth it. Submitted by Will (NYC, US) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
The last release prior to taking a break... This is a great sit-back and enjoy album. It did have two (2) single hit ('I'm just a Singer' and 'Isn't Life Strange' did well), but most importantly, it was a great album for sound quality & mixing. This was an album that lent itself well to being performed live during there last concert tour (1973) prior to taking a break from the grind of touring, which they had been doing for almost 3 years straight. Like "Every Good Boy" this album was a huge college campus hit (they sorta all were...really)and it showed they were not just a studio band...not that needed to really prove that to anyone.
Hayward & Lodge followed up this album with 'Blue Jays'...very very similar in sound and tempo to Seventh Sojourn (play them back-to-back, and you'll probably agree, Seventh Sojourn should have been a double-LP). Ray Thomas released 2 solo albums, and Greame Edge fronted a band under his name. Mike Pinder put out solo work as well, and came back in '78 for Octave, but split the group immediately afterwards.
Seventh Sojourn was the final release of the Moodies when they were one of the hottest, most popular rock bands anywhere. Many agree, this was the last GREAT Moodies album...and Great it is !!

The Way the Moody Blues should be heard The Moody Blues have a sound that's uniquely theirs. There are no egos in this group; all members, except Graeme Edge, take turns with the lead vocals. This, their seventh album, takes a fairly mellow approach on most tracks, rocking out on "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band". My favorite track here is Ray Thomas's "For My Lady". But all the tracks are great here, and the album is highly listenable. This particlar version is in DTS 5.1 surround sound. The sound opens up even more than in the stereo version, and textures that were masked in the stereo mix literally jump out at you. This is a group tailor-made for surround sound. It should also be noted that this, and four other MB albums, are being released in March, 2006, on Super Audio CD hybrid multichannel. I can't wait!!!! Not so happy I was so excited to hear this my first DTS album. The sounds quality and depth truly are wonderful but the album itself is a real snooze. Sound Quality like this demands voices worthy of hearing and the MB's are just not up to it, to the point of being noticeably off key. I am disappointed. The beautifully remastered version of the Moody Blues's 1970 back-to-basics album (translation: they cut way back on the overdubs) strips away the original aural murk at last, and includes informative liner-note interviews with the band about the recording process. Standout tracks include the classic sort-of protest song "Question" and "It's Up to You," one of singer/guitarist Justin Hayward's most authoritatively wistful riff-rockers.
There is a clear attempt to pare back the lush excesses of their earlier work in favor of ...

After helping lay the groundwork for concept albums and progressive rock with 1967's orchestra-enhanced suite DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, the Moodies retrenched for the follow-up. They abandoned the orchestra but kept their sound as rich as before by playing a multitude of instruments themselves, including everything from sitar to cello to oboe. At the time, it was remarkable enough for these instruments to appear on a rock record, much less to be played by the band itself. The string-laden conceptual pieces of DAYS were replaced ...

Philadelphia's Boyz II Men are a vocal quartet steeped in a number of R&B and soul traditions. Not only do they have the sizable legacy of soul singers from the City of Brotherly Love to draw on for inspiration, they've also surpassed mentors Bell Biv Devoe as the premier Pop/R&B act in the land, filling the shoes of such dapper hit-makers as New Edition and The Jacksons.
