At the same time, he attempts to raise funds to cure the blindness of the kindly pianist who takes him in -- even if he has to resort to robbery and murder to do so. Classic "B" film tells the tale of Hal Moffat, a college student disfigured in a laboratory accident. Years later, he escapes from a mental hospital and begins killing those who are responsible. Star Rondo Hatton, who suffered from the disease acromegaly, was called upon to play monsters and villains without the the aid of makeup due to his condition- which causes deformation of the tissues of the head, hands and feet. The once-handsome Rondo Hatton, star of "The Brute Man", was diagnosed with acromegaly in his early twenties -- a disease that causes gross disfigurement by enlarging the bones in the face, hands, and feet. Hatton died before the release of "The Brute Man," the last in a series of B-movie roles as monsters and heavies.
