80 minute feature film DVD starring Lloyd Bridges. Lloyd Bridges stars as spaceship pilot Colonel Graham in this 1950 sci-fi film about a group of four astronauts (three men, one woman) whose trip to the moon is ruined when a solar wind blows them off course, forcing them to land on Mars. There, they find a primitive society of beings that bear a striking resemblance to humans. One of the better sci-fi films to come out of the 1950s, ROCKETSHIP X-M is a serious thriller that boasts excellent black and white photography (the Mars scenes have an eerie red tint), fine acting, and mixes an intriguing plot and sophisticated science with some rather bizarre fifties naivete, making for a thoroughly entertaining trip into space. Rocketship X-M Movie Review Average Rating: (3.3 out of 5 stars) Rocketship XM Review: This is an interesting concept taken from the science available from 1949, when an actual trip to the moon was impossible. The script has some difficult areas, such as being able to go to Mars without any attempt at navigation. We would expect to see a monkey on Mars, who had just typed out the Webster's Dictionary by chance. However, the use of a filtered redish brown color for Mars surface, in the black and white era is unusual, and the graphics of planets is not bad. I saw this movie when I was 12, and somehow remembered the story. It was very nice to review the movie on DVD in excellent remastered quality. It is well worth the nominal price. Classic Sci Fi This is the second dvd of RXM I have purchased, the first being an inferior transfer with poor picture quality. Upon playing this 50th anniversay edtion I was thrilled at the much improved picture quality.
Great classic scifi and great quality. Submitted by marksmith24 (Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
A LIPPERT Classic There are many interesting stories around about the making of this sci-fi epic: Neuman came to producer Lippert with the "moon movie" idea, Lippert was cold at first, but finally convinced when he was told it could be done for under 25K. Another goes along the lines that Lippert was intending to ride off Pal's publicity for his upcoming "Destination Moon" and when Pal threatened a lawsuit, Lippert had his rocket "knocked off course" ending up at Mars and avoiding a lawsuit...some of these stories sound too outlandish to be true, but maybe they are?
In any event RXM is the superior product when compared to Pal's movie. RXM features superior acting, script, and a fantastic sound track by Ferde Grofe.
No doubt viewers under the age of 40 will find this one far to tame and dated. But one must remember, this was the FIRST sci-fi to pair space travel and atomic disaster-a theme worn long and hard by Hollywood in years to come.
This movie is well worth your time and money if you haven't seen it yet. Submitted by a reviewer (Tecumseh OK) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Four men and a girl blast into space on mankind's first expedition to the Moon. But due to a cataclysmic event in space, their ship is sent hurling out of control towards the planet Mars. Suspenseful terror as the crew fights for their life on a war-ravaged world with radiation-riddled nightmare creatures! The climax makes this one of the most powerful and unforgettable science fiction movies ever made. "Rocketship X-M" was deftly brought to the screen by famed writer/director Kurt Neumann. Long considered the definitive space exploration film of the 50's, a genuine classic with a power that has spanned the decades.

$9.69 A meteor crashes in the desert near a small Arizona town, and research scientist John Putnam (Richard Carlson) thinks it's a spaceship, but no one will believe him except his loyal girlfriend, Ellen (Barbara Rush). Weird evidence begins to back up his theory however, from the strange behavior of some of the locals, to the slime trails, the ghostly noises in the phone lines, and the apparitions of hideous alien eyes swooping down on passing cars. Director Jack Arnold (CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON) lets the story unfold deliberately, and infuses the desert locale with all the unearthly ...

$9.69 Beginning with a documentary style that immediately hooks the viewer, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, based on the Harry Bates short story "Farewell to the Master," becomes as much a human interest story as it does a sci-fi B-movie classic. The film soberly depicts the arrival of an alien dignitary, Klaatu (Michael Rennie), who has come to earth with his deadly robot, Gort (Lock Martin), to deliver the message that earthlings must stop warring among themselves--or else. After being shot at by ignorant, panicky military guards, Klaatu is brought to a Washington, D.C., hospital, where he begs a sympathetic but frank Major White (Robert Osterloh) to gather all the world's leaders so he can tell them more specifically what he has come 250 million miles to warn them about. Losing patience, Klaatu slips into the human world, ...

Rocketship X-M review
$13.55 Although many of Welles's most interesting scenes wound up on the cutting-room floor when Spiegel reedited the film, THE STRANGER is still multilayered, complex, and fascinating. The scenes between Welles and Robinson are intellectually gripping, leading up to the stylized, shocking conclusion. As with so many of Welles's films, he was unhappy with the final result, but the viewer won't be. It would be most interesting to see the film as Welles intended it to be, but in the meantime, this version of THE STRANGER is a marvel.
