Straight out of Memphis, Tennessee, Triple Six Mafia's Project Pat continues the South's stranglehold on the hip-hop scene. From the "Pimptro," Pat clues us in that the life of a North Memphis hood is one of a syrup drinking, pot smoking, coke-sniffing pimp who puts money grubbing cheese grubbers in their places.
"North North" defines his territory of North Memphis, while in "This Ain't No Game," the antagonist soon finds out that if you have a beef with a member of the Triple 6 Mafia, you have a beef with all of the Triple 6 Mafia, and that "where you pull your pistol is where you lay." On the title track, a murderer, robber, and psychopathic schizophrenic's narration brings us vividly into his life as he tries to juggle careers as recording artist and pimp, which causes him to resort to bucking down (eliminating) those who stand in his way. Despite the overtly disturbing and negative imagery, both lyrically and musically MURDERERS & ROBBERS is a very well put-together piece of work. Murderers & Robbers music CDs
$14.09 Da End furthers the horrorcore style that Three 6 Mafia had unveiled on their cult favorite Mystic Stylez debut, except here the overall tone is one of outright violence rather than eerie ominousness. Moreover, the sound quality here is much improved, as producers Juicy J and DJ Paul lay down the sort of hard-hitting, bottom-heavy beats that would define not only the remainder of their career but that of the entire Dirty South movement that would soon blossom. Much like the very similar Chapter 2 album that would follow within a year's time, the balance here between the underground essence of Mystic Stylez, ...

One of Bob Marley & the Wailers' finest collections, AFRICAN HERBSMAN belongs alongside CATCH A FIRE and NATTY DREAD as an essential Marley recording. There are three reasons why AFRICAN HERBSMAN is significant. For starters, it is a treasure trove of some of Marley's best songs. Though these tunes were written and recorded in the early 1970s, Marley would revisit them--in concert and in re-recordings--throughout his career. The celebratory "Lively Up Yourself," the winsome and wise "Small Axe," the swaying "Don't Rock the Boat," and the escapist dream "Kaya," are only a few of the gleaming gems here.
More importantly, perhaps, AFRICAN HERBSMAN captures the Wailers at their peak as a band. With Bunny Livingston and Peter Tosh's high, sweet harmonies prominent throughout, and the Barrett brothers' impeccable rhythms, the Wailers are an unstoppable unit (and provide a focus lost on some of Marley's solo albums). But the most distinguishing quality of these sessions is Lee "Scratch" Perry's remarkable, unique production. Unlike the rock-oriented sound of the Chris Blackwell-produced ...
