(1 Customer Review)
Girlpope's The Whole Scene Going showcases a small group of musicians with a sincere and evident affection for everything rock & roll. Vocalist/guitarist Mark Norris delivers lyrics that are light on the angst and heavy on the pop, with a rough around the edges quality that makes for endearing power melodies. "Real Whigged Out" shows off the band's retro-hippy groove with a hint of the Beatles meets the Doors (complete with a sensationally strong finish). Norris' guitar is always loud and lively, yet controlled by accessible chord structures and singable choruses. The album's lead-off track, "Indy 500," and the keyboard-propelled "So Far as Now" draw upon pop-punk harmonies, persistent licks, and memorable hooks to illustrate Girlpope's knack for crafting enjoyable tunes. Splashy, sassy, and fun, these guys from Buffalo, NY, have a whole lot going for them in this energetic yet compact collection of catchy mod rock songs revelling in the raw attack of irreverent noise pop. ~ Roxanne Blanford
Since forming in Buffalo, NY, in the mid-'90s, Girlpope received much critical acclaim as a top-contending unit in the power pop arena of rock music. Led vocally by guitarist Mark Norris and ably accompanied by bassist/vocalist Richie Campagna, drummer Brandon Delmont, and newcomer Tommy "The Kid" Stanford on sax and guitar, Girlpope was named Best Local Band by the Buffalo News within their first year as a band. Their first recording, a 7" single titled I Was a Teenage Jesus became a staple on local radio. After winning a local battle of the bands contest, Girlpope recorded their first full-length CD Cheeses of Nazareth on P22/Atom Smash Records. The disc earned national distribution, was recognized as Best Local Album by the Buffalo Times, and received international airplay, landing a coveted slot in the Top Ten list of Radio Belgium's year-end polls. All this attention eventually resulted in opening for bands Cheap Trick, Love, Sloan, and Mercury Rev.Girlpope's second disc, the eight-song EP The Whole Scene Going, the band was named Outstanding Rock Group of the Year by entertainment journal Artvoice, the Buffalo News, and Buffalo Beat Music.-From the All Music Guide

| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Whole Scene Going
$14.39 Shakira's brand new English album She Wolf is an uptempo pop album. It is all about synthesizers and electronic concepts, all mixed with the world sounds that we are used to from Shakira.. sounds from countries like India, the Middle East and her home country of Colombia. She Wolf features a predominantly English track list with a follow up album of new and unique repertoire in Spanish to come in 2010. The title track "She-Wolf " boasts the infectious and energizing sound that made Shakira a household name, with a slightly more dancey/ electronic beat (about 125 beats per minute). Though most tracks on the upcoming album will be in English, Shakira chose to service the Spanish version of the first single, "Loba", two weeks before the English single is launched.
Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells ...
| | Rammstein Liebe Ist Fur Alle Da CDs (2009) Bonus Tracks; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Whole Scene Going
$17.65 Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings of "Wiener Blut" which are eventually overcome by a guitar crunching juggernaut. This strange mix of styles is more effective here than ...
| | Judas Priest Concert Classics CD (2009) Reissue
Whole Scene Going
$11.18 There was a time when British Steel was the hottest, hardest, and most awesome substance on the planet. On Judas Priest "Concert Classics", here it is, in its most appropriate circumstances: live, on stage. Judas Priest re-invented heavy metal. The first band to use the twin-guitar attack, they built on the foundation Black Sabbath ...
| | Kiss Sonic Boom CDs (2009)
Whole Scene Going
$16.09 When SONIC BOOM was released, it had been over a decade since the last Kiss studio album, so expectations were understandably high. In addition, the intervening period had seen the band fire two of its founding members for the second time, only to replace them with sidemen wearing Ace Frehley and Peter Criss's iconic makeup. Luckily, ...

Whole Scene Going
$16.09 Sagor & Swing's second album adds 40 minutes of music to the first, without any changes to signal except maybe the fact that Eric Malmberg's writing has become slightly more assured and efficient. The recipe of this mellow drum-and-organ duet rests solely on his precious melodies. Using the softest settings on his Hammond organ, he plays the cutest tunes as if the world was a perfect place to live in. Ulf Möller backs him up with light rhythms, brushes, and soft mallets being used a lot more than sticks. The tunes in 3/4 are the lightest and most heartwarming, with special mentions going to "In i Shogen" and "Fantasilandef Raseras" (despite its 4/4 time ...
