Ernie Krivda & The Fat Tuesday Big Band: Ernie Krivda (tenor saxophone); Dick Ingersoll (alto saxophone, flute); Dave Sterner (alto saxophone); Tom First, Jsaon Rigby (tenor saxophone); Bernie Pelsmajer (baritone saxophone); Keith Powell, Brad Goode, Matt Schulman, Steve Enos (trumpet); Garney Hicks, Chris Anderson, Gary Carney, George Carr, Phil Pike (trombone); Mike Kieswetter (piano); Lee Bush (guitar); Sheri Luchetti (bass); J.R. Richley (drums). Perdido music CDs Ernie Krivda has achieved a reputation as a strikingly original and adventurous tenor saxophonist whose phrasing is often staccato-ish and whose solos are full of extroverted emotions. Perdido songs While he has recorded some standards during the past 20 years, he tends to make them sound quite fresh and new. Perdido album This CD, therefore, is a major surprise. Krivda is heard at the head of a conventional 19-piece big band which swings its way through such tunes as "In a Mellotone," "Leave Us Leap" (a hit for Gene Krupa in 1945), "Deed I Do" And Quincy Jones' "Jessica's Day." The dozen arrangements are by Thad Jones, Bob Florence, Oliver Nelson, Al Cohn, Quincy Jones, Marty Paich, Ed Finckel, Grady Tate, Bill Holman and Ernie Wilkins, and the playing is very much in the mainstream big band tradition. Perdido CD music contains a single disc with 12 songs. ...See Full Description

Al Haig Meets Master Bop Saxes 1948 - 1949 CD (2000) (Import) Spain
Al Haig was one of the primal bop pianists. He endures in perpetuity with the spirits of George Wallington, Joe Albany, Dodo Marmarosa, Bud Powell and Elmo Hope. In the year 2000, Definitive Classics came up with a beautiful album of Haig's collaborations with tenor saxophonists Wardell Gray and Stan Getz, recorded in 1948 and 1949. Gray's genius is at once refreshing, his logic irresistible. Getz, like Gray, was profoundly influenced by Lester Young, and Haig was in many respects the ideal collaborator for their brand of bop-to-cool progressive jazz. That's why this music feels so pleasant and natural up inside of your head. Putting Getz and Gray together with ...
