Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: The Streets Of Bakersfield music CDs
$12.55 Although for the rest of his life, underinformed fans of 1990s pop will forever be calling Darius Rucker "Hootie," the former Hootie & the Blowfish singer-songwriter makes his solo debut with a perfectly credible take on mainstream contemporary Nashville country. The laid-back, largely acoustic folk-pop of Hootie & the Blowfish was never that far removed from contemporary country in the first place, so only the fact that Rucker is the first major African-American country star since the heyday of Charley Pride makes the stylistic crossover out of the ordinary. First single "Don't Think ...

| | Rascal Flatts Unstoppable CD (2009)
Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: The Streets Of Bakersfield album
$14.75 If there's a candidate for the Eagles of the 21st century, it's surely Rascal Flatts, with their seamless blend of country, rock, and pop, and their discography of multi-platinum albums hitting the top of both the country and pop charts. Their sixth album, UNSTOPPABLE, makes the aforementioned blend so smooth that only the most stubborn pigeonholer would still label them a country act. If not for the recurring pedal-steel swells and the occasional vocal twang, there'd be nothing keeping UNSTOPPABLE from being a straight-up mainstream pop album. The preponderance of big, bold power ballads should appeal to fans of, say, Bryan Adams or Sheryl Crow just as easily as country ...

Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: The Streets Of Bakersfield CD music
$12.39 Three weeks before the release of this double-disc best-of-and-then-some collection, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, who as Brooks & Dunn were one of the most successful duos in country music history, decided to call it a day after 19 years, 40 singles (half of which topped the country charts), ten studio albums, and a slew of awards. As far as the industry was concerned, they went out on top. #1s... AND THEN SOME contains 30 tracks spread over two discs and includes two new songs. Disc One opens with Ronnie Dunn and Terry McBride's barroom/stadium rock ...

| | Shirley Scott Talkin' Verve CD (2001)
Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: The Streets Of Bakersfield music CDs
$13.85 Recorded between 1963 and 1971. Includes liner notes by John Corbett.
Soul jazz keyboardist Shirley Scott did not record for Verve Records very long, only issuing a handful of albums for the label between 1963 and 1966. As a result, the 14-track anthology TALKIN' VERVE is not a thorough history of the organist's long and varied career, but an in-depth exploration of one of its most interesting parts. The TALKIN' VERVE series of anthologies were subtitled "The roots of acid jazz," and this 2001 anthology focuses on the big, brassy soul-jazz workouts and pop-song covers that were popular among collectors and samplers of that style.
This is part of the Verve Records Takin' Verve series.
Producers; Bob Thiele, Esmond Edwards.
Personnel: Shirley Scott (organ); Jimmy Raney, Attila Zoller, Barry Galbraith, Mundell Lowe (guitar); Oliver Nelson (strings); Eddy Manson (harmonica); Phil Woods (alto saxophone); Jerome Richardson, Stanley Turrentine ...
