| | Squeeze Domino CD Squeeze Discography of CDs
If in the kingdom of the pop ballad the chorus still reigns supreme, then Squeeze is sitting pretty in the pleasure palace. Despite being largely a cult success since the late '70s, the band hasn't lost its sense of fun or sacrificed its style in the face of the electronic revolution. Squeeze remains at heart the quintessential pop band, with fluffy riffs, music rich in appeal and variety, and lyrics to warm the cockles of any suburban heart.
Glenn Tilbrook's voice belies his age and still has the same home-grown tinge to it, occasionally doubled with the trademark octave vocals to hammer home the chorus hook. And while there's an overall sense that with the encroaching years that the pace of the band-members' lives has slowed, hints of mature crises appear, such as in "To Be a Dad" ("I went to the cleaners / And came back with my life"). The band turns in instrumental performances that put most modern acts to shame, and manages to explore some of the more complex harmonies to be found on the early 21st century British scene. This is honest pop with no hidden agenda, as appealing to the careful listener as it is to the casual.
1998 album by the British new wave group. Features 12 newsongs marking original members Chris Difford & GlennTilbrook return to the sound of their early hit years in thelate '70s/ early '80s. A Quixotic Records release.

Domino album
$7.69 Fountains of Wayne turn self-conscious alt-rock geekdom into an unassailable art form on their second album UTOPIA PARKWAY. They combine classic power-pop song structure with a knack for the killer hook and an endless supply of self-referential lyrics detailing the lives of East Coast hipsters growing up in the postmodern age. Perfect pop harmonies, ringing guitars and the occasional synth sweep (for retro new wave credibility) match lyrics about "playing in a cover band" and taking "the N train down to Coney Island."
It quickly becomes plain that the outsider edge of the songs comes from the fact that the songs' characters are kids from the 'burbs who enter the city in search of deliverance, or at least relief from boredom. This scenario's apex is reached on "Laser Show," about driving into New York City's Hayden Planetarium to see Pink Floyd and Metallica laser shows. God bless those who write about what they know.

| | Wilco Summerteeth CD (1999)
Domino CD music
$9.89 Moving beyond A.M.'s Uncle Tupelo-oriented country-rock, Wilco's double-length BEING THERE explored the sonic vistas of the Stones and Big Star. SUMMER TEETH takes things a step further. A loose, inspired masterwork of rootsy power-pop in the grand mid-'70s tradition, it's the greatest album Alex Chilton never made. With perfect pop melodies and a knack for throwing things askew via left-field sonic elements, this is as far from the country as Wilco could be.
Jeff Tweedy's ragged-but-right voice is the essence of rock & roll--the travails detailed in the lyrics seem undeniably his own. Though his days of paying homage to Acuff-Rose seem long gone, Tweedy and his compatriots still sound engagingly organic on SUMMER TEETH. Even if they're closer to Badfinger ...
| | Crowded House Afterglow CD (1999)
Domino music CDs
$9.15 AFTERGLOW is a collection of previously unissued studio recordings.
Recorded between 1985 & 1994. Includes liner notes by David Hepworth.
AFTERGLOW is a collection of previously unissued studio recordings. This Limited Edition includes a Neil Finn interview bonus track.
When New Zealand's Split Enz broke up in 1985, the Finn brothers took decidedly different paths. Elder brother Tim married actress Greta Scacchi while going the solo route while Neil founded The Mullanes, who eventually became Crowded House. Following its wildly successful 1986 debut, this Kiwi threesome squeezed out nearly a decade's worth of smart guitar pop reminiscent of The Beatles, the Kinks, and Squeeze before calling it quits in 1996.
This compilation of 13 refurbished and/or remastered tracks consists of stray B-sides and half an album's worth of unreleased songs originally recorded for 1991's WOODFACE. Early tracks include "Recurring Dream," a chiming, pre-Crowded House number, and the wah-wah guitar-soaked "Left Hand," a loose workout spiked by some rollicking piano. Neil Finn's hand firmly steers the band's creative tiller through seas of ...
| | John Lennon Anthology CDs (1998) Box Set
Domino songs
$61.39 THE JOHN LENNON ANTHOLOGY is a 4-CD box set containing more than 100 previously unreleased tracks and a 60-page booklet including liner notes by Yoko Ono, Anthony DeCurtis, John Lennon and Rob Stevens.
During the great John Lennon revival of the late '80s, Yoko Ono licensed to have the Westwood One Radio Network air scores of unreleased home recordings and demos as the Lost Lennon Tapes radio show. At the time, there was endless speculation about when highlights would be released, likely as a box set. The proposed set never materialized, yet most of the material was heavily bootlegged, as the producers and Ono must have suspected. Despite the bootlegs, Ono didn't agree to an official collection of unreleased Lennon material until 1998, after the Beatles' Anthology series proved a critical and commercial success. Hence, the birth of Lennon's Anthology -- a four-disc box set, comprised entirely of unreleased home recordings, demos, and outtakes, many of which have never been previously bootlegged. As it's constructed, it's more of an aural biography than a music album. All the dialogue snippets, half-finished songs, throwaways, and parodies ensure that it's never casual listening, yet ...
