The Blue Nile presents their debut release WALK ACROSS THE ROOFTOPS featuring seven tracks including "Stay" and "Heatwave."
The debut album from the enigmatic Blue Nile received tremendous reviews, yet barely scraped the chart. The promise was there, and it took shape on the second album Hats. Paul Buchanan's pleading voice is made for late-night listening in a cosy bedsitting room. Mulling over love lost, love found, happy times, sad times and kitchen sinks (I lied about the last bit, but you get the picture), a beautiful landscape of evocative music soaks in rather than hitting you first time. Blue Nile can be played over and over again, which is why they have only felt the need to put out three records in 15 years!
Their 1984 debut release. Includes the minor UK hit single "Stay". The gorgeous "Easter Parade" is a glimpse of their atmospheric signature sound that was later fully realized on their acclaimed second release 'Hats'.Rolling Stone - "..a seductively well-crafted first album." Walk Across The Rooftops album
$22.65 The members of the Blue Nile seem to have taken seriously all those articles and reviews about what audiophiles and technicians they are, and this time around they've spent a half-dozen years concocting an album that sounds like they made at least some of it in their living rooms rather than their space-age studio. They achieve the appearance of simplicity and humanity by foregrounding either an acoustic guitar or piano on most tracks, by restraining other instrumentation, by making their synthesizers sound like strings most of the time, and by using real strings on occasion. All of which makes for appropriate settings for Paul Buchanan's songs of domestic contentment. "Happiness," "Sentimental Man," "Holy Love": the titles tell the ...

Walk Across The Rooftops music CDs
$12.39 I REMEMBER MILES won the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Performance.
This stunning album is Shirley Horn's loving tribute to her friend and colleague, the legendary late Miles Davis. Davis was so taken by Horn's first album EMBERS AND ASHES that he forced The Village Vanguard to let her virtually-unknown trio open for him during his 1961 run there. Their friendship and admiration for each other's music lasted through the years, and Shirley Horn's 1991 recording YOU WON'T FORGET ME, was one of the last recordings Miles Davis made.
Horn selected mostly ballads from Davis' Columbia Records catalogue for her tribute because, as she explains in the liner notes, Davis liked her to sing ballads, and ballads are Horn's specialty. She can slow down time in a unique ...

"These songs are as close as we came to perfection," says group founder and leader Maurice White in the liner notes to THE ESSENTIAL EARTH, WIND & FIRE. Given the quality of the music in this double-disc package, it's hard to argue. Remarkable for both its commercial success and its inventive hybrid of funk, soul, jazz, and African folk music (White's kalimba is featured as a solo instrument ...

Walk Across The Rooftops music CDs
$9.79 Chris LeDoux is one of country music's most talented personalities: an accomplished sculptor, rodeo champion, author and singer-songwriter. HAYWIRE, his umpteenth release (he made scores of recordings on his own independent label), is a live wire. Electric throughout, this compactly-produced album maintains a charged current from start to finish.
The roaring opening track, a tribute to the wild-side, lets you know, in no uncertain terms, that you are about to enter "Honky Tonk World," and is followed by the equally driving ...

Walk Across The Rooftops music CDs
$15.75 Titled for the railroad courier service of the same name (the album's sleeve replicates one of their parcels), Showaddywaddy's fourth album was released on the back of their latest hit, "When," in late 1977. Following in the tradition of its predecessors, Red Star splits its contents between band originals (six of the 13 songs) and the covers which were the staple fare of the band's singles catalog, although it is difficult to say which is which -- a tribute to the strength of both the band's writing and the idiosyncrasies of their sound. That the band had developed into little more than a supercharged revival act can never be disputed. But the revival itself had never taken off in Britain, leaving Showaddywaddy to glory in a field of exactly ...
