Legends on the Australian rock scene, the Master's Apprentices has a selection of material spanning the years 1965 through 1972 on this heavily psychedelic compilation.
This 24-song compilation covers the group's most popular recordings from 1965-1972. The eight Mick Bower-penned cuts from 1965-1967 are the clear highlights; most of the rest, like much of the Australian rock of the time, is extremely derivative of British progressive rock trends. Includes excellent detailed history by renowned Australian rock archivist Glenn A. Baker. ~ Richie Unterberger
Originally issued on vinyl in 1980, Hands Of Time 1965-73 has never been out of print. This CD issue adds key tracks from the Jam It Up! collection of rarities & unreleased material, making it a powerful, comprehensive 24-track anthology essential to any serious collection of Australian rock music. Over more than seven turbulent years, the assertive, stylish & always credible Master's Apprentices gave Australian rock an edge of true quality. Their original recorded output (14 singles, 3 EPs & 5 LPs) provides a neat chronology of rock's growth during the era, tracing the path from raw white R&B, to psychedelia, to 'head' music, to free-form experimentation (some recorded at London's Abbey Road Studio). The cream of this output has been carefully culled & presented on this exceptional CD. Commencing with a molten, 1965 unreleased track 'Poor Boy', & closing with another unreleased track, the 1972 recording 'Freedom Seekers', this CD includes the classic tracks, 'Undecided', 'Living In A Child's Dream', 'Elevator Driver', 'Turn Up Your Radio', 'Because I Love You' & 'The Future Of Our Nation' (live). Raven Records. 1990.

Hands Of Time album
$15.19 Titled after a famous quote from guitarist Eddie Phillips and released just before the Creation finally achieved its three-decades-delayed U.S. breakthrough when Wes Anderson used the band's trademark hit "Making Time" in his 1999 film RUSHMORE, OUR MUSIC IS RED WITH PURPLE FLASHES outdoes all previous Creation compilations. Collecting every studio track this band recorded in its original '60s incarnation, including rarities like the rarely-available but bittersweetly beautiful "Sweet Helen" along with legendary mod-psychedelia guitar-blast classics like "Making Time," "Biff Bang Pow," and "Painter Man," and including rare photos and extensive liner notes, this is a textbook example of how to do a compilation. No fan of '60s U.K. pop should be without this record.

| | Action Packed CD (1981)
Hands Of Time music CDs
$16.95 Though the Action never had a chart hit nor scaled the heights of fame like its mid-1960s British Invasion contemporaries, the group remains well-respected as one of the quintessential mod/U.K. R&B bands. THE ULTIMATE ACTION makes a good case for the justness of this assessment by collecting the best of the Action's eminently soulful singles in one convenient package. Though vocalist Reg King and crew were never as bombastic as the Who, as threatening as the Rolling Stones, or as tough-sounding as the Small Faces, the Action were groovier than all three and perhaps closest to the spirit of the American black music they so admired. Produced by George Martin, on tracks like "In My Lonely Room" and "I Love You (Yeah)" the group also ...

Hands Of Time album
$21.65 To deter confusion with the American band that hit with 1966's "Time Won't Let Me" (and for that matter, the third-string U.K. punk outfit circa 1977-78), this group is most commonly referred to as the Dutch Outsiders by garage rock enthusiasts. And that crowd refers to them quite regularly, because, as this comprehensive anthology shows, ...
