| | Midival Punditz Hello Hello CD (2009) Digipak
Rotolando Respirando CD music
$13.59 Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj make electronica of unusual wit and flexibility, and they do so in ways that draw deeply on their Indian heritage without invoking the kind of fake spirituality that flatters Western listeners who believe that enjoying South Asian inflections is a sign of their own depth. Anyone who approaches Hello Hello with that attitude will be nicely brought up short by the cheesy vocoder on "Electric Universe" and by the way the duo cheerfully hijacks the rock & roll colonialism of Led Zeppelin's "Four Sticks" (effortlessly demonstrating both the song's silliness and its grandeur). That's not to say that everything here is humorous, though all of it is fun: the sharply funky "Drifting" nicely juxtaposes snapping drum parts with lush strings and a keening bansuri flute; "Sun Mere Salam" features a ...
| | 38 Special Bone Against Steel CD (1991)
Rotolando Respirando music CDs
$13.95 Though .38 Special was never in a class with Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers, the Outlaws or the Marshall Tucker Band, some of its late-1970s and early- to mid-1980s output was spirited and quite enjoyable. But by the early 1990s, the Southern band had pretty much run out of steam. For the most part, Bone Against Steel is uneventful and much too slick for its own good. Tame, run-of-the-mill corporate rock tunes like "Signs of Love," "You Be the Dam, I'll Be the Water" and "The Sound of Your Voice" sound like third-rate Journey, and don't hold a candle to some of Special's earlier efforts. The CD has a few memorable tracks, including the anthemic "Rebel to Rebel" and the bar band-ish "Jimmy Gillum." But even so, Bone Against Steel is an album that only Special's most devoted fans will want. For novices, a much better investment would be A&M's 1987 collection Flashback: The Best of .38 Special. ~ Alex Henderson
The Southern rocking band's first foray on a newly-reconstituted-at-the-time Charisma Records (division of Virgin Records), their first effort not on longtime label A&M. They followed their well honed formula of power rock with a softer edge for this affair and fits in well with the times or many bands trying to make it in the 90's, as the rise of Nirvana took hold of the world.
.38 Special: Donnie Van Zant (vocals); Max Carl (vocals, keyboards); Danny Chauncey, Jeff Carlisi (guitar); Larry Junstrom (bass); Jack Grondin (drums).

Rotolando Respirando songs
$14.65 Maverick producer/MC Beans piloted the underground hip-hop crew Antipop Consortium to new outré heights before beginning a solo career in 2003. Beans has built his name on transgressing boundaries and using hip-hop as a palette with which to mix other genres, electronic and jazz among them, and ONLY finds the artist continuing this trend.
With help from two of avant-garde jazz's most formidable figures--bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake--Beans offers ...
