This is the second volume of the Canasian various artist anthology WOMEN AND SONGS.
Released in 1998, this Canadian compilation (and the second in a by now well-established series) takes tracks from 19 different female artists, many of whom happen to be Canadian. This was during the height of the Lilith Fair craze, where chick rock was played on the radio frequently, and artists like Sheryl Crow, Lilith-founder Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Paula Cole, and Natalie Merchant (all of whom are found here) were constantly on the charts. For the genre it represents, it's actually a pretty decent collection, a combination of the aforementioned big-name musicians with those who had less staying power (at least outside Canada) like Jann Arden, Natalie Imbruglia, Billie Myers, Wild Strawberries, and Sarah Slean. ~ Marisa Brown

This excellent two-disc collection captures Poco's finest moments from the days when they were laying down the template for all the country-rock music that was to follow. It's hard to remember, but when the Eagles first hit the scene, they were thought by many to be a Poco-wannabe band. Listen to this set and you'll hear why. The Forgotten Trail (1969-1974) culls tracks from Poco's first eight albums, as well as unreleased cuts and singles. From the classic anthem "Pickin' Up the Pieces," which kicks things off, through "You Better Think Twice," "C'mon," "Kind Woman," "From the Inside," "A Good Feelin' to Know," "Crazy Eyes," and on and on, this is wonderful music, ahead of its time in many ways.
