| | Madonna Rain CD Madonna Discography of CDs
Madonna's EP for RAIN/FEVER features three different versions of the song "Rain," as well as three for the song "Fever," and additional tracks including "Waiting (remix)," "Up Down Suite," "Bad Girl (extended Mix)."
"Rain" was the fourth and final U.S. single from Erotica. It never made the Top Ten, but had a relatively long chart life, was a more "friendly" song than the other singles from that album, and became an adult contemporary hit, paving the way for the "softer" Madonna to emerge in the mid-'90s. The single contained four tracks, those being the radio remix and album version of "Rain," a remix of the Erotica album track "Waiting," and a non-album cut, "Up Down Suite." The single version of "Rain" is not drastically different from the longer album version, just a little "beefed up." However, when "Rain" was issued on her ballads collection, Something to Remember, the album version was used instead of the single version. Therefore the single version can only be found on the actual CD single. The remix of "Waiting" is a straight-up hip-hop mix featuring a rap courtesy of then House of Pain frontman Everlast. "Up Down Suite" is not much of a song, just 12 minutes of house beats featuring samples of her vocals. Still, for the die-hard fan and collector, it's a plus to have these mixes of the songs, especially since the "Rain" remix was not issued on her ballads collection. ~ Jose Promis

Rain album
$7.49 "Rescue Me" was Madonna's second single (and one of two new recordings) from her 1990 retrospective Immaculate Collection. It lacked an accompanying music video, yet, as the follow-up to the immensely successful (and controversial) "Justify My Love," received so much airplay that the label released a single, albeit once the airplay had peaked. Therefore, for its time, it had an unusually high debut on the Hot 100, quickly peaked at number nine, then plummeted off the charts. That said, the single, which featured a seductive still from the infamous "Justify My Love" video as its cover art, was issued with five mixes. The first version, the "single mix," is an edit of the album version. The "Titanic Vocal" is an extended mix of the album version, while the "Houseboat Vocal" is more stripped down, utilizing different beats and instrumentation, and bringing a piano into the mix, as well as beginning with a clever sample from her 1986 song "True Blue." The final two mixes (the "Lifeboat" and "S.O.S." mixes) utilize more vicious beats, and the final comes closest to being a dub version, although all keep the vocals more or less intact. These mixes, many years after their original release, hold up surprisingly well, making this single a worthwhile consumer choice for fans and collectors alike, and they provide good examples of what house/pop dance music was like in the early '90s. ~ Jose F. | | Madonna Justify My Love (1993)
Rain CD music
$7.49 With the release of the electric "Justify My Love," Madonna (or her record label) had perfected the art of the CD maxi-single, issuing a record with four distinct mixes, each different from the other and sometimes seeming to be completely different songs. The "Orbit 12" Mix (mixed by William Orbit) is a groovier version than the original (which is the first mix on this disc), and brings Lenny Kravitz's background vocals to the forefront. The hip-hop mix (track three) utilizes horns and has additional explicit lyrics and vocals, almost making one feel as if one is winding down in a New York after-hours hip-hop club at 4 a.m. The fifth mix ("The Beast Within Mix") is completely different from the others, almost sounding like a totally different song (which could have been titled "The Beast Within"). Complete with Eastern influences (which would later resurface on the song "Erotica") and totally different lyrics, this mix brings a much more sinister edge to an already dark, seductive song. To round out the single is an additional nine-plus-minutes mix of her 1989 hit "Express Yourself." This disc, along with its excellent artwork, stands as one of the best of Madonna's long history of well-packaged maxi-singles, and further helped set a precedent for the maxi-single market. ~ Jose F. Rain music CDs
$7.49 Madonna released EROTICA around the same time she released her SEX book, and that's exactly what it sounds like. The title song has a sensuously static groove over which she commands, "Put your hands all over my body." "Where Life Begins" demands that you do something a whole lot more intimate (and quite unrepeatable here) to her. The CD booklet has a photo of Madonna in bondage. To get across the album's naughty feel, Madonna dispensed with the pop prettiness of LIKE A PRAYER and returned to her hard-core dance club roots.
She and co-producer Shep Pettibone, who had made his name as a club DJ and dance remixer, craft some alluring bad-girl grooves (catch the ocean-deep bass on "Waiting") while still managing to keep things catchy. "Deeper And Deeper" is celebratory dance-pop (with a brief Latin break that nods to the music's true roots) and "Rain" stands among Madonna's major ballads. There's a strange heaviness amidst the fun, games and bondage on EROTICA, which "In This Life" goes a long way toward explaining: it's about AIDS and homophobia. At her naughtiest and most R-rated, Madonna still carries a message, and it resonates well beyond the dance floor.
Recorded at Mastermix and Sound Works, New York, New York.

Rain CD music
$10.99 "Deeper & Deeper" is a release by the international pop star Madonna. In addition to five versions of the song, the disc features a version of "Bad Girl" and five takes on "Erotica."
"Deeper and Deeper" was the second single released from Madonna's Erotica album. The song, in its regular album form, is a dance epic. The single includes seven versions, which are all club mixes of a song that was a club hit to begin with. This single begins with an edit of the album mix, followed by two stripped-down house mixes (featuring a sample from "Vogue" where "Greta Garbo, Greta Garbo" is repeated throughout the song). The fourth mix is a basically the extended album version, which, in the breakdown, substitutes piano for the Spanish guitars. The fifth and sixth versions are dub mixes, while the seventh is little more than a few extra minutes of bonus dub beats, which, in the long run, wind up being somewhat indistinguishable from one another. The mixes don't stray too far from the original's winning recipe, but, with nearly 45 minutes worth of dance beats, one can hardly say this single doesn't satisfy. ~ Jose Promis
