Greatest Hits album
$11.99 STREET CALLED DESIRE...AND MORE contains the full album STREET CALLED DESIRE as well as additional hits and rare remixes.
This is part of Mercury Records/Chronicles Funk Essentials series.
René & Angela's obvious enthusiasm and for-real emotions make listening to Street Called Desire a pleasure. The uptempo numbers aren't jokes -- the throbbing beat on "I'll Be Good" is mind locking, but the two ballads, "You Don't Have to Cry" and "Your Smile," are outstanding. What makes them work is their unpredictability. No particular or predetermined pattern is set. No attempt is made to divide the lines and choruses equally; each singer unselfishly contributes what's necessary. "Smile" is mostly Angela until René repeatedly chants "No other love can light my life, no one can make things right, 'til my baby smiles." René has more juice on "You Don't Have to Cry," matching alternating verses with Angela, who gives an incredible performance on the heart-stopping ballad. René's brother Bobby Watson (formerly of Rufus) co-produced the sides with Bruce Swedien. "Save Your Love for Number #1" and "Your Smile" both reached number one R&B; "You Don't Have ...
| | New Jack City CD (1991) Original Soundtrack
Greatest Hits CD music
$6.19 This soundtrack, from Mario Van Peebles' hit movie New Jack City, is a fairly good cross section of rap, house, and R&B styles, in keeping with the attitude of the movie (a violent cop vs. crack lords drama). There's no "Theme from Shaft" for the '90s here, but there are some slammin' sides all the same -- the album kicks right into high gear with Ice-T's "New Jack Hustler (Nino's Theme)," a nonstop barrage of beats, samples, and furious rhymes. F.S. Effect manage to convey the same sort of energy and fury with "Get It Together (Black Is a Force)" later in the album. The disappointment in the rap area is the track from 2 Live Crew, with a mix of slightly better than routine beats and samples and some lousy lyrics handled in a lazy throwaway manner. ~ Steven McDonald

| | Time Ice Cream Castle CD (1984)
Greatest Hits music CDs
$6.09 In the mid-'80s, Prince may have been the king of Paisley Park, but the Time frontman Morris Day was the sergeant-at-arms and the court jester simultaneously. With a flamboyant image, production aesthetic, and songwriting approach all closely aligned with those of his Purpleness, the Time ...
| | Epiphany: The Best Of Chaka Khan, Vol. 1 CD (1996) Import
Greatest Hits songs
$9.79 All tracks have been digitally remastered using HDCD technology.
"Never Miss The Water," featuring Me'Shell NdegeOcello, was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.
Chaka Khan's career through the 1996 release of Epiphany: The Best of Chaka Khan, Vol. 1 -- involving eight albums with Rufus and eight solo albums, along with assorted collaborations -- produced roughly 40 Top 40 R&B singles, not to mention dozens of undervalued album cuts. So it is clear that any one-disc attempt at wrapping up the highlights is bound to work more like a sampler than a true best-of. And though this release is given the "Vol. 1" tag, it remained without a sequel as late as 2005, when Reprise reissued it without altering the contents. Yet another frustration is that previously unreleased songs take the place of missing classics like "Sweet Thing," "Clouds," "Fate," "Close the Door," and "Stay." (That's just for starters.) Nonetheless, the disc does contain Khan's most popular work, from ballads like "Through the Fire" to anthems like "I'm Every Woman" and "Ain't Nobody," along with other radio ...
| | Isaac Hayes At Wattstax CD (2003)
Greatest Hits album
$9.99 Though Stax records had previously released albums featuring outtakes from Wattstax, a festival of black music held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in 1972, ISAAC HAYES AT WATTSTAX, a full-length recording of the soul star's hour-long set, was not issued until 2003. The festival's headliner, Hayes was at the peak of his popularity at the time of Wattstax; his impassioned performance and the screams of 112,000 fans corroborate his mantle as the "Black Moses" of music.
Hayes and his backing band, the Isaac Hayes Movement (including a full string section), kick off their set with a blazing rendition of "Theme from SHAFT," replete with the song's archetypal wah-wah guitar line. "Soulsville," a protest song about ...

| | Seth P Brundel Devil's Pawn CD (2004)
Greatest Hits songs
$13.25 There's no doubting Seth P. Brundel's political edge, having dropped rhymes for Miami's dissident Beta Bodega Coalition and with the lyrically activist Algorithm crew. And on this first full-length solo release, Brundel isn't letting up the pressure, checking the OP (original pundit) on "1/2 Way There" where he declares ...

Greatest Hits songs
$22.79 Silvio RodrÃguez wrote down this about Babilonia D.F.:La Habana, 31 de enero de 2002.
