| | Edith Piaf Les Trois Cloches CD Edith Piaf Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
LES TROIS CLOCHES is a superb collection that presents the legendary Edith Piaf in classic form. While many American collections include "clean" versions of Piaf's material, this 21-song compilation, which encompasses recordings she made across the 1930s, '40s, and '50s, features her unflinching accounts of rough-and-tumble street life and bad love. Piaf was as well known for her life's lusts and hardships as she was for her distinctive singing, and this set delivers on both counts.
With her heavy vibrato, pure tone, and emotionally intense, dramatic delivery, Piaf became one of the foremost representatives of French pop music, and she went on to influence nearly every French singer who followed in her wake. With its excellent selection of songs (spanning the best years of her career), LES TROIS CLOCHES is a thoroughly convincing representation of what Piaf's legend is all about, and it adds up to one of the finest collections of her work on the market.
Exclusive import three CD compilation featuring 42 of the late French icon's best known songs. Three standard jewelcases housed in a slipcase. Goldies.

Les Trois Cloches album
$10.89 While the title track would propel Ed Sanford (keyboards/vocals) and John Townsend (keyboards/vocals) into the Top Ten, the pair were concurrently session musicians for notable West Coast pop rockers Loggins & Messina, Brenton Wood, and the Dirt Band, among others. In fact, the duo released the album as Sanford/Townsend Band the previous year, to little (or no) attention. However, when "Smoke From a Distant Fire" shot up to number nine in the summer of 1977, the long player was re-evaluated, re-named, and reissued to further solidify their one-hit wonder status. The rest of the platter continues with much the same slick and blue-eyed soullessness that was being churned out of L.A. from the likes of Toto and the Michael McDonald-era Doobie Brothers. Not even the formidable team of Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett can prevent sides such as the syncopated, disco-infused "Shake It to the Right," or the cheesy, synth-led "Does It Have to Be You" from sounding as if its initial inspiration were derived out of the incidental score to a porno flick. They recount the mid-'70s Southern Cali hedonistic existence on "Moolah Moo Mazuma (Sin City Wahh-oo)," tellingly sporting the lyrics "Well there ain't no deed that a dude won't do/When he's hustling for a buck or two/In sin city wah-oo." There are a few redeemable moments in the form of the somewhat anachronistic "Squire James" -- a rather dark and lurid tale of lust and revenge. The selection is guilded ...
| | Mariza Fado Em Mim CD (2002)
Les Trois Cloches CD music
$13.95 Though she's undoubtedly resigned to nearly eternal comparisons with Amalia Rodrigues, the master of Portugal's fado, Mariza's debut album finds her breaking out of the mold from the beginning. Newcomers to the fado will quickly become familiar with the style ...
| | Mariza Terra CD (2008) Bonus Track
Les Trois Cloches music CDs
$13.49 Terra feels like an attempt to move Mariza into the musical mainstream. She's already established herself at the forefront of fado, as one of the leading performers of the emotive Portuguese style, and there's no doubt she possesses a wonderful voice. But the addition of several guests, such as Chucho Valdés, Ivan Lins, and Tito Paris (among others) seems to open up the seams between fado and other genres, including Brazilian music and jazz. ...

SINGLES COLLECTION 1966-73 is a 2000 compilation of tracks recorded by the British rock group Status Quo.
Like the dog that titled Status Quo's fourth album, The Singles Collection 1966-1973 is very much a beast of two heads, the first (representing the band's output between 1966 and 1969) shifting its gaze between Kinks-ish beat and British psych and the second (wrapping up the band's releases and re-releases at the end of that span) sinking its teeth into the unapologetic boogie blues that have remained the band's stock in trade ever since. It's a misleading mélange, at least in terms of chronology. The Quo cut four albums for the Pye label, before departing in 1972 for Vertigo and fame -- the last in that sequence, Dog of Two Heads, was released in December 1971. However, the moment "Paper Plane" gave the transplanted band a major hit in early 1973, Pye began digging into the vaults and the last six tracks on The Singles Collection represent the fruits of those labors. In terms of the band's own discography and development, they are meaningless. Nevertheless, the first complete roundup of all ten original Pye 45s (and B-sides) remains an essential compilation, both for Quo fans in general and for students of British psychedelia as it squirmed, post-1967, in search of new directions. The Quo eventually found theirs in the aforementioned boogie but, before that, the Bee Gees-esque ballad "Are You Growing Tired of My Life" and a rocking "Price of Love" both offered possible new avenues, and one cannot help but wonder where the band might have gone next, had "Down the Dustpipe" and "In My Chair" not struck gold during 1970-1971. While disc one is the A-Z of Quo's early work, disc two offers a more patchwork approach to the same period, first unearthing the four 45s the band cut under earlier identities the Spectres and Traffic Jam, then delving into 15 outtakes and alternate versions from across the ...
