| | Iggy Pop Pop Music CD Iggy Pop Discography of CDs
This collection of 20 tracks recorded by U.S. punk rock legend Iggy Pop features "Tell Me A Story" and "Sea Of Love."
Iggy Pop was associated with Virgin Records for much of his post-Stooges solo career, but for a brief spell during the late '70s and early '80s he called Arista Records his home. This era saw punk's godfather stray away from the primal style he is known primarily for as he experimented largely with new wave sounds. Certainly not his best recording period, calling this 20-track collection The Best of Iggy Pop is very misleading, as it only sticks to the aforementioned "unfocused" period (in fact, Pop rarely performed any of these tracks in concert in subsequent years). From the three albums this collection plucks songs from, the material from 1979's New Values is by far the strongest (as ex-Stooges guitarist James Williamson lent a hand as producer) -- "New Values," "I'm Bored," and "Five Foot One" all wouldn't be out of place on a real Iggy "hits" set, while a track that is rumored to have been a leftover from his Stooges days, "Dog Food," is another keeper. Some newcomers to Iggy will be fooled into believing this set is a true best-of, but with such classics as "I Wanna Be Your Dog," "Search and Destroy," "Lust for Life," and "The Passenger" nowhere to be found, a more fitting title would be The Best of 1979-1981. ~ Greg Prato
Pop Music is an inconsistent compilation from an inconsistent era -- namely 1979 through 1981. During those three years, Iggy only recorded a handful of good songs, and while it stands to reason that a collection would be able to present all of those cuts in one strong record, Pop Music isn't it. There are a handful of classics here, particularly "I'm Bored," but it isn't all it could have been. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Import only 20-track collection issued through BMG features tracks released between 1979 and 1981 including, 'Bang Bang', 'I Need More', 'I'm Bored', 'New Values', 'Five Foot One' and more. BMG. Pop Music Review

$11.39 This strange concept for a retrospective--collecting the many times Van Morrison's music has been used in popular films--pairs obvious Morrison classics such as "Gloria" and "Wild Night" with lesser-known gems such as "Queen of the Slipstream" and "Irish Heartbeat." The question one has to wonder--given ...

$14.39 Hollywood studios are notorious for liberally borrowing ideas from each other, with the resulting clutch of similarly-themed films often bewildering the public as they try to decide which movie to go and see. In 2005 Bennett Miller directed CAPOTE, an Oscar-winning dramatization of Truman Capote's traumatic experiences writing the celebrated novel IN COLD BLOOD. In 2006 Douglas McGrath (COMPANY MAN) directed INFAMOUS, a movie that follows exactly the same premise. Although it's difficult to see why such a story would need to be immortalized in celluloid for a second time, McGrath does throw in a few tricks to help separate the two films. Talking head interviews with some of Capote's contemporaries, such as Gore Vidal and Babe Paley, are used, and the movie has a lighter--almost comedic at times--feel to it than Miller's movie.
The basic premise of INFAMOUS is exactly the same as that of CAPOTE, so we witness Toby Jones's Capote traveling from New York to Kansas, settling into ...

Huck Cheever (Eric Bana) plays poker for a living, using every opportunity that arises in daily life to hone his skills and test the odds. He is fueled by both a compulsion to win and the desire to do better than his father, L.C. Cheever (Robert Duvall), who is a championship poker player. Huck's skills come naturally, but he lacks patience. When he meets Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore), an earnest, honest girl from Bakersfield pursuing her dream of being a singer, he sees the possibility of a real relationship for the first time.
