Best Of Santa Esmeralda
$13.05 The Best of Santa Esmeralda: You're My Everything reveals that the group's recordings have held up quite well. The disc wisely chooses the full-length album versions of the group's tracks, thus allowing the listener to get the full effect of the lush, epic arrangements that characterized the recordings. The up-tempo cuts effectively pit pop hooks and melodies against insistently danceable rhythms and are delivered with brio by the studio musicians: "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" effectively layers staccato handclaps and horn arrangements out of an Ennio Morricone soundtrack over its stomping dance beat, ...

| | No Regrets: The Best Of Scott Walker And The Walker Brothers, 1965-1976 CD (1992) (Import) United Kingdom
Best Of Santa Esmeralda
$14.45 18 track reissue of 'Hits' collection for British Invasion group who weren't even British, featuring solo work from their enigmatic lead singer, Scott Walker as well. 2000 release.
The news that the Walker Brothers were preparing a comeback was not the hottest headline of 1975. Some seven years had passed since the trio parted -- seven years during which all three members had essentially sunk from view, without even the benefit of a rabid cult following to set the pulse racing. Remember, this was pre-Tilt, pre-Climate of Hunter, pre-Julian Cope and Marc Almond, pre-all the subsequent developments which raised Scott Walker at least to semi-mythological status. In a nutshell, the Walkers were so washed up, there wasn't a towel in the world that could dry them. But somebody cared, and, by mid-summer, the Walkers were touring the British cabaret circuit and preparing to relaunch their recording career with "No Regrets," a gargantuan slab of maudlin sadness which wrung every last iota of pain from Scott's voice. Six minutes long, it defied almost every law of pop averages -- even Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" and the Beatles' "Hey Jude" had variety on their side, as they slipped from movement to movement. "No Regrets" was one long sulk from start to finish -- and it was brilliant. The single shot up the U.K. chart, the Walkers were all over the TV, and ...
| | Percy Faith Today's Themes For Young Lovers/For Those In Love CD (2002)
Best Of Santa Esmeralda
$10.69 "2 LP's On 1 CD" B/W "For Those In Love"
2 LPs on 1 CD: TODAY'S THEMES FOR YOUNG LOVERS (1967)/FOR THOSE IN LOVE (1968). Originally released on Columbia. Liner Note Author: Mark Marymont. Recording information: 02/27/1967-12/22/1967. Collectables' two-fer reissue of the Percy Faith albums Today's Themes for Young Lovers and For Those in Love is an excellent match-up. The former album was Faith's summer 1967 LP release, and it was followed by the latter in the winter of 1968. Faith took the same approach with both, recording his versions of hits with his orchestra and, on most tracks, a female chorus, so you might as well call this reissue "Percy Faith Plays the Hits of 1967." Three of the year's Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers -- "Happy Together," "Somethin' Stupid," and "Windy" -- are included, along with lots of other soft rock successes. Faith's arrangements usually contain elements from the hit recordings, and he has made good choices from what was available to him. He wisely presents "Somethin' Stupid" as an instrumental, not forcing his chirpy women to twist their tongues around the slightly sarcastic lyrics, ...

| | Tupac Nu Mixx Klazzics Vol. 2 CD (2007) Edited; Remix
Best Of Santa Esmeralda
$13.89 Personnel: Nando Redrum (guitar, guitars); Eddie J. Cooper (guitars); Will Vega (bass guitar); Jonathan Tyler (drums). Additional personnel: Candy Hill, Dwele, Fatal Hussein, Snoop Dogg, Styles P, Outlawz , Kurupt, Boot Camp Clik, Butch Cassidy. Audio Mixers: Arnold Mischkulnig; Claudio Cueni; Willie Fulton. Assembling tracks from a variety of the slain rapper Tupac Shakur's 1990s releases, this Death Row compilation reimagines cuts such as ALL EYEZ ON ME's "Ambitions As a Ridah" and "Got My Mind Made Up" and DON KILLUMINATI's "Hail Mary" in a series of updated remixes, with guest appearances from a new generation of rap artists including Styles P, Daz Dillinger, and Kurupt. Nu Mixx Classics, Vol. 2 (Evolution: Duets and Remixes) is another in a long line of shameless attempts by Death Row to monetize its 2Pac back catalog, in this case by remixing previously released material and incorporating guest raps by the Outlawz and Kurupt. No one needs this album (after all, who out there is itching to hear a "rock remix" of "Hail Mary" with lame hard rock guitars?). All it does is further disgrace the Death Row brand name. Not even the most passionate 2Pac fan will find much, if anything, to enjoy here. Rather, anyone who is a true 2Pac fan should be disgusted by the appropriation of the deceased rapper's legacy for cheap cash-ins like this, where more craft went into the packaging than the music. It's downright maddening that junk CDs like this continue to see the light of day, regardless of whether or not anyone buys them. ~ Jason Birchmeier Nu Mixx Classics, Vol. 2 (Evolution: Duets and Remixes) is another in a long line of shameless attempts by Death Row to monetize its 2Pac back catalog, in this case by remixing previously released material and incorporating guest raps by the ...
